Posted on: September 11, 2016

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Milford girls tennis team will look to make the most of the opportunity to move up in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference standings with a win over Glen Este in the coming week.  Amanda Reinhart, the Eagles’ ace at first singles, continues her streak, which now stands at seven consecutive wins.  Reinhart fell in the second match of the season Kelly Neuhaus of Mt. Notre Dame, who was named to the Division I first team All-State Tennis Team in 2015.

A LOOK BACK:  Milford fell to Mason B on Tuesday, 4-1 in some of the more competitive matches of the year.  Amanda Reinhart was up over Mason’s Lele 3-0 before Lele bowed out of the remaining sets.  Mallory Faler fell, but not without taking some sets in a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Bandaru, and Hasan of Mason took the victory over Leah Breuer 6-3, 6-1.  Mason’s first doubles team of Davis-Hopkins won over Claire LaFrance-Nicole Spencer, 6-2, 6-1 and Emme Thomas and Emma Neal fell to McCullough-Fang in second doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

Wyoming High School, ranked #9 in Division II, also took a 4-1 win over Milford this week.  Reinhart easily won at first singles over Wyoming’s Mayer, 6-1. 6-1.  Other results for the Eagles: Osng defeated Milford’s Faler 6-1. 6-2; Kirsch defeated Breuer 6-0. 6-2; LaFrance-Spencer fell to Boster/Boster 6-0 first set, then withdrew; and Shoger-Sasson defeated Thomas-Neal 6-2. 6-3.

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Milford will be busy early in the week.  The Eagles host McNicholas (#2 in Division II) at home, then head to Glen Este of the ECC.  The Eagles will look to take their first ECC victory when they play the Glen Este Trojans, who also have yet to post a conference win.

  • Monday, 9/12:                  McNicholas High School @ Milford, 4:00 pm
  • Tuesday, 9/13:                 Milford @ Glen Este High School, 4:00 pm

INSIDE THE ECC:  Turpin defeated Walnut Hills in conference play and leads the ECC 0-3 in the ECC and 0-9 overall.  Loveland follows at 3-1, followed by Kings (2-2), and Walnut Hills and Anderson at 1-2.  Glen Este (0-2) and Milford (0-3, 0-9) still seek their first Eastern Cincinnati Conference win.

Reinhart (3-0, 8-1) sits alone at the top of the standings for ECC players at first singles.  Faler moved up to a tie for 3rd in second singles this week.

POLL WATCH:  The top ranked school hasn’t changed in week five of the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll, as Mason once again started the week in the top position.  Ursuline Academy and Sycamore continued their dance for second, as Ursuline moved past Sycamore who fell back to third.   The ECC’s Turpin remained in fourth, but Lakota East and St. Ursula moved up into a tie for fifth, and Mt. Notre Dame fell from fifth to eighth.  The ECC’s Loveland held onto seventh and Walnut Hills dropped to ninth.  Milford moved back into the poll and received three votes, as did Kings with four.
