Milford High School Department Of Athletics And OHSAA Honor Outstanding Class Of 2018 Seniors
With the 2017-18 school year recently completed, the Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to recognize eight of its outstanding student-athletes from the Class of 2018 with the announcement of several special awards. The following student-athletes exemplified excellence both in the classroom and in their respective sport(s) throughout their time at Milford.
OHSAA Scholar Athlete Awards
One male and one female are chosen based on their academic and athletic achievements, with special emphasis on the grade point average of varsity athletes.
- Harris Craycraft – posted a 4.88 cumulative GPA through the first semester this year; earned four varsity letters each in cross country and track and field; a three-time All-ECC selection in cross country, including one first team honor
- Megan Hardewig – posted a 4.83 cumulative GPA through the first semester this year; earned four varsity letters in swimming during her career
OHSAA Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Awards
One male and one female are chosen after earning a team Milford Sportsmanship Award for honor, integrity and showing concern for others. The Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award is sponsored by the Ohio High School Athletic Association to promote sportsmanship, ethics and integrity. Our two student-athlete winners this year have certainly displayed the characteristics for which this award was designed.
- Ben Gerding – earned two career sportsmanship awards and two varsity letters each in soccer and track & field
- Sydney Poleski – earned three career sportsmanship awards and two varsity letters in softball and one in basketball
MHS Senior Athlete Eagle Awards
One male and one female are chosen after earning at least one Eagle Award for hard work, dedication and discipline.
- Blake King – earned two varsity letters in football and one in basketball; earned first team All-ECC football honors as a senior, while leading team to a share of the conference championship and the school’s first playoff appearance since 1986
- Holly Barlage – earned three varsity letters in soccer; was a two-time All-ECC selection, including first team honors as a junior
NIAAA Three Season Athlete Award
Given to one senior who earned three varsity letters during their senior year.
- Bryn Rolfsen – awarded varsity letters for the sports of soccer, basketball and track & field
MHS Most Outstanding Senior Athletes
Every year, one boy and one girl are voted as “Most Outstanding Senior Athlete” by the head coaches of every sport. Number of varsity letters, number of different varsity sports played, accomplishments in their varsity sports and personal character are the focal points of the selection process.
- Bryce Dugan – earned four varsity letters (three for football and one for track & field). Bryce was twice named to the ECC All-Conference Teams for football, including a first team and Co-Defensive Player of the Year Award during his senior season. His play also earned him second team All-Ohio honors. Bryce helped lead a resurgence in the Milford football programs as the Eagles won a share of the 2017 ECC Championship and earned a berth in the OHSAA Playoffs; both for the first time since 1986.
- Bryn Rolfsen – earned seven varsity letters (four in soccer, two in basketball and one in track & field). Bryn was a three-time All-ECC selection on the soccer pitch, including a first team honor as a junior.
