Milford High School To Host Grand Reopening At Charity Lucas Multi-Purpose Athletic Complex August 12

Posted on: July 29, 2022

The Milford High School Department of Athletics is thrilled to announce plans for a grand reopening at the Charity J. Lucas Multi-Purpose Athletic Complex on Friday, August 12. A daylong celebration is on tap as Milford unveils the recently installed turf field at the complex and the transition from the home of Eagle Soccer only to a fully functional, multi-purpose facility.

Work is currently in the final stages of completion on a project which was 100% privately funded through the generation contributions of the Milford Athletic Boosters, the Cincinnati Bengals and FC Cincinnati. The completion of this upgrade comes nearly a decade after installation of turf at Eagle Stadium Powered by Cullen Electric, another project funded privately by the Milford Athletic Boosters.

The day will feature two components, football activities in the morning, followed by soccer festivities in the afternoon and evening.

Kicking off the day at 9am will be opening ceremonies featuring dignitaries from Milford and the Bengals. At its conclusion, a youth football 7 on 7 challenge will be staged for Milford players in grades K-12. Concurrently, a pass, punt and sprint competition will also be offered for any interested boy or girl in grades K-8.

After a break until mid-afternoon, soccer will take center stage for the balance of the day. At 3pm, alumni of the Milford men’s and women’s soccer programs are invited to take part in a special alumni match. Following the alumni action, a grand re-opening ceremony will be held with comments from representatives of both Milford and FC Cincinnati, as well as a ribbon cutting.

The night concludes with a varsity soccer doubleheader featuring Milford welcoming Colerain. Girls action will kick off the twinbill at 5pm, with the boys squads taking the field at 7pm.

Charity Lucas Field was named after a Milford High School student and varsity soccer player who passed away following a car accident in the summer of 1990 at just 16 years old. The Lucas Family has been instrumental in the construction and upkeep of the formerly grass field ever since. The installation of the new surface was handled by the Maumee Bay Turf Center.
