Milford Invitation on Tap for Girls Cross Country

SETTING THE SCENE:  Amid very wet conditions, the Milford girls cross country squad ran to a ninth place finish and a number of new personal records at the challenging Mason Invitational.  The Lady Eagles now prepare for their own Milford Invitational, to be held this weekend at Valley View Nature Preserve.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: The Lady Eagles are back in action on Sat., Sept. 15 when they host the Milford Invitational.  Held at Valley View Nature Preserve, the Milford Invite kicks off Saturday morning at 9:00 am.  The girls varsity race will take place at 10:00 am, with the open girls race kicking off the event at 9:00 am.

Milford’s girls varsity team placed 6th of 14 teams at the 2017 Milford Invite, led by current members Olivia Loeffler (10th, 20.42), Emma Beck (12th, 20.50). 

 

A LOOK BACK:  Among some of the toughest competition in the Cincinnati area and beyond, the Lady Eagles finished 9th of 18 teams and 165 individual runners in the girls Section I Varsity Race (large schools).  Freshman Emmy Sager again led the way for Milford, her time of 20:09 good for 25th place, followed by junior Olivia Loeffler (43rd, 20:56).  Classmate Emma Beck set a new season best record time of 21:59 (84th).  The records continued as a pair of freshman set new career bests: Sam Conrad (22:06, 86th) and Emily Rodeffer (22.19, 92nd).  Rounding out the roster for the varsity Eagles were Gretchen Feldkamp (115th, 22:57) and Brooke Stansell (142nd, 23:55).

Following a pattern this year of teams winning their own invitationals, Mason girls took the team title followed by the ECC’s Turpin and Loveland, Ursuline Academy and Springboro in the top five.  Milford finished ninth and other ECC programs included Walnut Hills (11th) and West Clermont (15th).  Hannah Doerger of Ursuline Academy crossed the finish in first with a time of 18:56. Maddie Walker of West Clermont was the top ECC finisher (6th, 19:18).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  As of Sept. 9, the following Milford runners rank in the top third of the ECC Standings: Emmy Sager (12th), Olivia Loeffler (21st), Emma Beck (39th), Sam Conrad (t-45th), Emily Rodeffer (48th), Gretchen Feldkamp (53rd), and Brooke Stansell (62nd).

 

POLL WATCH:  Lakota East and Mason are now tied atop the area coaches’ poll for week three, and the third through the fifth positions are filled by ECC programs; Turpin, Kings, and Loveland who moved up into fifth from seventh.  Ursuline Academy, previously fifth, fell to seventh, and Anderson fell to tenth from eighth.
