Milford Names Head Coaches For Bowling, Swimming & Water Polo

Posted on: June 27, 2018

Following approvals at the June 21 district school board meeting, the Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to officially announce four new head coaches for the 2018-19 school year. As previously announced, Dave Fallis will lead the Eagles’ Girls Basketball program beginning this winter. James Ficklin has been tabbed to lead both Milford Bowling teams, while Jennifer Marks will head up the Water Polo program and Corey Dauw the Swimming teams.

Ficklin becomes the head coach at Milford after spending the last 12 seasons as the head coach at Walnut Hills High School. He has been an avid bowler for over 50 years and previously coached basketball as well. He retired in 2017 from the Milford school district after spending nearly 10 years working in computer and network tech support.

Coach Marks brings extensive aquatics experience that dates back to her time as a competitive swimmer in both high school and at Calvin College to the water polo program. She has gathered experience as the junior varsity swim coach at Anderson High School, the Operations Manager at Mercy Healthplex Anderson and most recently as the Head Swim Coach at the Miami Hills Swim & Tennis Club.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to coach water polo at Milford High School,” Coach Marks says. “This is an exciting sport with an excellent group of athletes and families. Along with enthusiasm, I bring my high school and college swimming experiences, lesson instruction, and coaching history to the program. This will be a fun opportunity which will allow us to continue the water polo tradition at Milford High School.”

Coach Dauw is a familiar face to Milford and the Aquatics program after graduating from the school in 2001. From 2005-2013, Dauw was an assistant swim coach for the Milford Swimming team. Since 2013, he has served as the head coach of the Milford Area Swim Team, a program he has been involved with since 2005. Coach Dauw was also the head coach and an assistant coach prior at the Miami Hills Swim Club.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to coach the Milford High School Swim Team,” Coach Dauw says. “I've coached swimming since 2001, including eight seasons as an assistant coach at Milford High School. While at MHS as a student, being on the Milford Swim and Water Polo teams was an amazing experience. I hope to help current students have that same experience!”
