Milford Scores Big Gridiron Win Over Turpin

Posted on: September 10, 2021

For the second straight week, Milford’s rush defense was stout, this time limiting Turpin to just 55 yards, as the Eagles held on for a dramatic 20-13 win over the Spartans. The Eagles appeared to put the game on ice when Tofa Luani broke loose late in fourth quarter for a 60-yard run, but a Milford fumble gave the Spartans one final chance.

Trailing by seven, Turpin went 74 yards to inside the Eagle 30 in the closing seconds, but the Eagle defense tightened, giving Milford its first win over Turpin since 2018.

Luani was a beast on both sides of the ball, running for 145 yards and three touchdowns and recording a pair of sacks among six tackles defensively. Cam Zoromski had the game of his life on defense, finishing with four sacks and a forced fumble, along with a game-high 11 tackles.

The efforts of Luani and Zoromski were key in helping stifle Turpin standout running back Keenan Alcalde. Entering the night averaging 181 yards per game, Alcalde was held to only 64 on 19 carries. The Spartans managed just 18 yards on the ground in the first half as the Eagles built a 14-6 lead.

Milford will return to the field next Friday night, making the short jaunt to Loveland for the annual Battle of Miami Township Victory Bell.
