The Cincinnati Enquirer is once again partnering with the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown. The Showdown features high school football games across Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana.

The Showdown's 18-game slate kicks off Aug. 23 with East Central visiting Lawrenceburg and will include defending Division IV state champion Wyoming along with perennial powerhouses Covington Catholic, Highlands, Colerain and Winton Woods.

For the first time, the Showdown will feature a pregame tailgate series. Modeled after ESPN's College Gameday, the Tailgate at the Showdown will visit six different area high schools this season and will feature a live on-site broadcast along with interactive games and giveaways.

The broadcasts, which will be carried live on Cincinnati.com, will be hosted by Showdown organizer and radio host Tom Gamble and former Reading High School and University of Cincinnati quarterback Tony Pike. Content will include interviews from both home and away coaches and guests from local media, including Cincinnati.com's Lindsay Patterson and Fox 19's Joe Danneman and Jeremy Rauch.

Tailgate at the Showdown schedule:

Friday, Aug. 23: East Central at Lawrenceburg

Friday, Sept. 6: St. Xavier at Colerain

Friday, Sept. 13: Loveland at Milford

Friday, Sept. 20: Kings at Anderson

Friday, Oct. 4: Beechwood at Dixie Heights

Friday, Oct. 18: Lakota East at Lakota West

“This is something we have been wanting to add to the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown for about five years, and there is not a better time to do so than right now,’’ Gamble said. “We recognize that high school fans can’t get enough information about their favorite teams, the biggest games each week and all of the top players around the region who we will one day be watching on Saturdays and even Sundays.

“Our intent is to preview the games, provide updates about players and teams and make sure that we highlight all of the great achievements on and off the football field during our broadcasts.  We want to provide compelling content to those listening on site and also on our broadcast platforms."

Gamble hopes to spread the Tailgate at the Showdown series to all 11 regular-season weeks in 2020.
