New Water Polo Season Begins This Weekend At Napoleon Sprint-Off

Posted on: August 9, 2018

SETTING THE SCENE: The start to the 2018 prep water polo season has arrived and as has become tradition, the Milford High School boys and girls squads will head north this weekend to compete at Napoleon High School’s season-opening Sprint Off. Action from northwest Ohio gets underway on Friday (August 10), and continues through Saturday. The 2018 season will mark a change as Jennifer Marks has taken over as the head coach of the water polo programs. Marks is a long-time swim coach in the area, most recently at the Miami Hills Swim & Tennis Club.

THE BOYS REPORT: Coach Marks will welcome a host of new faces to the boys roster after the 2017 season ended with a 10-25 record for the Eagles. The two most experienced players are also the only two seniors on the roster in Evan Higgins and Nathan Klick. Juniors Seth Bennett, Tyler Blimline, Seth Bennett and Matthew Marks all split time between varsity and junior varsity last year and are back on the team again this fall. The balance of the varsity-only players includes sophomores Porter Bausch and Will Pond. Junior Caleb Fritz and sophomores Parker Cobain and Mitchell Hansbauer are expected to play both varsity and junior varsity for the Eagles this year.

THE GIRLS REPORT: Unlike the boys team, the Eagle girls do return a host of players that were regulars in the line-up last year. Three of the eight seniors on the rosters are the team’s most experienced players. Stephanie Karan, Megan Kreiger and Ellen Victory should lead the way this fall with other seniors including Felicity Gentry, Natalie Kunes, Carley Mills, Lindsey Schaeffer and Brittney Thomson. Juniors Samantha Chumley, Halle Fontaine, Zoe Huxell and Acacia Spencer and sophomore Anna Sager make up the balance of the 2018 varsity roster.
