Norwood Indian Run awaits girls cross country this week
SETTING THE SCENE: The season opened for the MHS girls cross country squad with a number of new personal bests at the Lakota East Fall Classic Invitational. Looking ahead, week two finds the team headed to Lower Millcrest Park for the Norwood Indian Run.
A LOOK BACK: The Lady Eagles opened the season on a high note in the Varsity 5K race, placing seventh of fourteen teams and a number of personal bests. Sophomore Emma Beck led the Eagles, placing 20th with a personal best time of 20.32. Andrea Armstrong was close behind, 24th with a 20.46, followed by Beck’s classmate Olivia Loeffler in 21.13, good for 29th place. Senior Lindsay Geise (22.54) and sophomore Brooklyn George (23.03) both set new career records, followed by junior Morgan Hills (23.42) and sophomore Paige Kleinfeldt (27.24).
Ursuline Academy won the Invitational, with three of the top five placers and five runners in the top ten. The Eastern Cincinnati Conference’s Kings and Loveland placed third and fourth respectively, while Walnut Hills finished eleventh. Ursuline’s Felecia Krekeler won with a time of 18.33, while Leah Maschino of Kings placed second at 18.48.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Milford will next hit the trails at the Norwood Indian Run, Xavier University Invitational, at Lower Millcrest Park. The race, scheduled for Sat., 9/2, is set for a 11:15 am start time for all runners.
INSIDE THE ECC: Six Lady Eagles open the season ranked in the top half of the girl’s ECC standings, led by Emma Beck (15th), Andrea Armstrong (18th) and Olivia Loeffler (21st). Joining the top three include Brooke Stansell (43), Lindsay Geise (44th) and Brooklyn George (46th).
POLL WATCH: A number of changes this week: Ursuline Academy, previously third, rose to the top spot in the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll for week one. Mason fell to second, followed by Lakota East who rose to third from fifth. Turpin of the ECC fell to fourth from second, and St. Ursula rose to fifth. Kings fell to sixth, and Anderson entered the poll for the first time at ninth. West Clermont received two votes in week one; Milford did not receive any votes early in the season.
