Ohio Boys Water Polo Championship Wraps Up Season For Sixth-Seeded Eagles

SETTING THE SCENE: The 2015 water polo season will come to a conclusion this weekend as the Milford High School boys team, seeded sixth, competes in the 41st Ohio State Water Polo Championships. The event will be co-hosted by Mason and Princeton High Schools with matches being played at both locations on each day (Oct. 30-31). The Eagles, who concluded the regular season with a record of 17-9, will open play in the tournament’s first match, battling No. 11 Oakwood on Friday at 1 p.m. at Mason. The winner will be back in the water at 4:45 p.m. against No. 3 St. Charles, with the losing team headed to Princeton to face the loser of No. 7 Worthington and No. 10 Napoleon at 7:15 p.m.

LOOK BACK: The regular season concluded for the Eagles during the 24th annual Milford Invitational over the weekend of Oct. 9-11, with the host school winning two of five matches. On the opening day of play, Milford dropped a pair of tough matches, falling to Toledo St. Francis 12-8 and being edged by Oakwood, 4-3. Day two was kinder to the home team as it opened with a 14-4 win over Kilbourne, followed by a 12-10 defeat of Napoleon. In its finale, the Eagles dropped an 18-9 decision to Mason to conclude the regular season with a final record of 17-9.

POLL WATCH: On Oct. 12, the Ohio water polo coaches released their latest with both Milford squads earning solid positions. The girls team is ranked fourth overall, down one from the position it held during the mid-season ratings. The Eagles trail top-ranked Upper Arlington, Sycamore and Mason atop the list. The boys have fallen to the No. 6 spot after being ranked fourth in the mid-season. St. Xavier continues to be No. 1 in the rankings, ahead of Upper Arlington, St. Charles, Toledo St. Francis and Maason. The full rankings can be found here.
