OHSAA District Meet Ahead for Boys Cross Country

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: The 2018 OHSAA Southwest District Championships will take place on Sat., Oct. 20 at Voice of America Park in West Chester.  In 2017, Milford finished 7th of 14 teams.  Then senior Harris Craycraft advanced out of the OHSAA District Championship with a twelfth place finish, the first time in four years that Milford sent a representative to compete at the Regional cross country meet.  Current members who competed at the 2017 districts include Michael Faler (18:59.5, 74th) and Payne Ackermann (19:13.6, 76th), both of whom ended the season at Districts with career best times.

The Eagles will compete in Boys Race 1 at 11:00 am.  In addition to Milford, teams in Race 1 include Elder, Hamilton, Harrison, Lakota West, LaSalle, Mason, Moeller, Mt. Healthy, Oak Hills, Northwest, Sycamore, Turpin, and Winton Woods.

The top 4 teams and top 16 individuals will qualify to Regionals the following week

Admission: $6.00 for all spectators (including seniors/school aged kids, and athletes/coaches not included on pass list).

  

A LOOK BACK:  Among a conference that boasts four teams ranked in the top ten in the Cincinnati area, the Eagles placed sixth overall at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championship meet. Milford was led yet again by senior A.J. Dickerson, who set a new career best time of 16:36 and earned fifth place.  Dylan Mullarkey (17:51, 30th) and A.J. Kaylor (18:42, 39th) were followed by Max McCann, who also set a new best time of 18:43 (40th).  The remaining Eagles in the varsity race included Zeke Edwards (18:58, 42nd), Luke Hawes (19:34, 45th), and Payne Ackermann (20:31 49th)

 

Jacob Krynock won the ECC individual title, followed by teammate Alex Justice and Turpin’s John Morton.  With three athletes in the top ten Kings was crowned the ECC champions, just two points ahead of Turpin.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  Following the ECC Championships, the following Eagles rank in the top third of the ECC standings as of Oct. 16: A.J. Dickerson (6th); Dylan Mullarkey (33rd), A.J. Kaylor (43rd), Zeke Edwards (67th), and Max McCann, who following the ECC meet moved up to 68th from 91st.   The Eagles are now 30-37 on the year.

 

POLL WATCH:  The final area coaches’ poll from the Cincinnati Enquirer has been released, and Mason, St. Xavier, Kings, Elder and Turpin will end the year as the top five programs.  Lakota West, Loveland, Anderson, Sycamore, and Lebanon round out the final top ten.  No ECC schools received votes in the final poll, which can be found HERE.

 

ICYMI:  A.J. Dickerson was nominated for the Cincinnati Enquirer Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Sept. 24.  The senior won his first career race when he took the top spot at the Harrison Invitational. A.J. finished the course in a time of 16:39.6, to win by nearly 10 seconds, helping the Eagles finish fourth in the team standings.  The Eagles hold a 29-32 overall record this season.
