OSHAA Duals, Milford Invitational Ahead for Wrestling

Posted on: January 25, 2017

SETTING THE SCENE:   Following a successful outing at the James V. Horning Memorial Tournament, Milford will open the week on the mats at the OHSAA Regional Dual Team Tournament.  The Eagles will then host the annual Milford Invitational Tournament this weekend.

A LOOK BACK: The Eagles started the weekend with Friday’s tri-match with Princeton and Lakota East.  Milford lost to Princeton 34-35, after beating them by 1 earlier in the season.  The Eagles lost to Lakota East as well, 16-54.  Double winners for the Eagles were Kobey Bronaugh  #113, Jimmy Murphy #132, and Tre Spillman #160

The Eagles ended the weekend at the James V. Horning Memorial Tournament in Mason on Saturday.  The JV Horning Memorial Foundation was started in memory of James Victor Horning in 2007 to help keep the spirit of James alive by helping students and families in need.  James was a senior at Mason High School when in October of his senior year he was tragically killed in an automobile accident.  His death is not a story of drinking and driving, but a cautionary tale of an inexperienced driver on a very wet road during a thunderstorm who was NOT WEARING HIS SEAT BELT. The JVH Memorial Foundation was formed to help students in need and to keep the spirit of James alive in hopes that it will help others (especially families who are dealing with a similar loss).  All money raised through the foundation goes back into the community.

Milford ended the tournament in 5th place of ten teams, with eight Eagles in the top seven.

  • Kobey Bronaugh - 1st place champion
  • Tre Spillman – 2nd place
  • Jimmy Murphy – 3rd place
  • Kyle Brady – 4th place
  • Blake Miller – 5th place
  • Derek Elliott – 6th place
  • Graham Martin – 6th place
  • Max Ward – 7th place

A LOOK AHEAD:  Huge week ahead for Milford wrestling.  The Eagles, seeded #7, start the week facing #2 Lakota West at the OHSAA Regional Dual Team Tournament in the opening round.  The winning team will hit the mats again with the winner of the #3 Loveland/#6 Glen Este, approximately 20 minutes after the first duals finish.  The Eagles will end the week hosting the Milford Invitational Tournament.

  • Wednesday, 1/25:        Milford @ OHSAA Regional Duals, Loveland High School, 5:00 pm
  • Saturday, 1/28:           Milford Invitational Tournament, Milford High School, 10:00 am

POLL WATCH:  The final Cincinnati Enquirer’s area coaches’ poll has been released and the year will end with Elder ranked first.  There were no changes from the previous week, so Mason, LaSalle, Fairfield and Harrison will finish in the top five.  Moeller, Oak Hills, Lakota East, the ECC’s Loveland, and Lakota West round out the top ten.  Anderson (3) is the only conference school to receive votes in the final poll.
