Posted on: May 12, 2018

Senior Holden Owens has advanced to the OHSAA Division I District Tournament after a fourth place finish at the OHSAA Sectional Tournament.

Owens opened Sectional play and advanced with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Alex Cho of Lakota East; he then won 6-0, 6-2 over Elder’s Charlie Garnett.  Owens’ third match was more challenging, as it took three sets for Owens to advance over Andrew Hendy of St. Xavier.  Owens fought to a 7-5 win in set one and though Hendy won the second with a score of 3-6, Owens moved on with a 6-0 win in the third and final set.

The fourth round found Owens facing Matt Lockman of Little Miami.  Lockman arrived at the match having defeated Lasse Arndt of Oak Hills, the #4 seed overall for the Cincinnati Sectional location.  Owens easily defeated Arndt 6-2, 6-3.

Saturday’s final day of competition concluded with Owens in fourth place at the Sectionals; Owens had to retire in the next match with #1 seed Chris Holden of Lakota East, and with an injury default for the third place match.
