Postseason Honors Announced For Eagles Football Players

Posted on: November 20, 2016

Nine members of the 2016 Milford Football Team have been recognized for their play this fall with honors from the Eastern Cincinnati Conference and Associated Press. Headlining the list of honorees for the Eagles are senior OL Andrew Johnson and senior athlete Chase Witte who both were tabbed first team All-ECC and second team All-Southwest District. The duo was joined on the All-ECC first team by senior LB Hayden Sluder.

In addition to the three All-ECC first team members, the Eagles also had five chosen to the league’s second team: junior DB Evan Baugh, junior K Dillon Coleman, junior LB Bryce Dugan, senior OL Adam Hensley and senior RB Dawson Slone. Senior DL Eric Richey was Milford’s honorable mention selection for this year.

From his left tackle position, Johnson anchored the offensive line for an Eagles’ team that rated second in the ECC with 235.3 rushing yards per game. Milford featured two of the top three runners in the league this fall.

Witte was easily the most versatile and valuable Eagle this season, taking snaps at a whopping 10 different positions between offense, defense and special teams. He finished his senior season as the ECC’s No. 1 rusher with 1,099 yards, while accounting for 17 total touchdowns. Slated to start the campaign at safety and as a return man, Witte spent the majority of the year at quarterback for Milford, while also spending time at running back, receiver and at multiple special teams positions.

Playing lineback, Sluder wrapped his senior season, with a team-leading 88 tackles, including 5.5 for loss. He tallied one sack, while picking up three forced fumbles. Sluder tallied at least five tackles in all 10 games, including three with 10+. His single-game high came against Loveland when he finished with 13.

Baugh was recognized for his play as a starter in the defensive backfield for the Eagles, finishing with 52 tackles and three pass break-ups. He also contributed as a dangerous returner on special teams.

Coleman had an excellent junior season, making 25 of 26 extra-point attempts and both of his field goal tries. He also nailed 14 of his 38 kickoffs for a touchback.

Dugan started the season on the defensive line, before moving to linebacker and finished with 84 tackles to rank second on the team. He added half a sack, forced a fumble and recovered another.

Hensley played center for Milford this fall and like Johnson was an important cog in a unit that produced the ECC’s second-ranked rushing offense.

One of the beneficiaries of the blocking of Hensley and others was Slone who ranked third in the ECC this fall with 822 yards on the ground. The diminutive, but powerful senior scored six touchdowns and had three 100-yard rushing games, including a high of 168 against Norwood.

Richey shifted from linebacker to defensive end early in the fall and ended up third on the Eagles’ roster with 63 total tackles, including six for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
