Postseason Honors Flood In For Eagles’ Girls Soccer

Posted on: November 6, 2021

Conference player of the year. Three all-district selections. Eight All-ECC choices. And the ECC and District Coach of the Year. Following one of the most successful girls soccer seasons in school history, these are the latest accolades to be bestowed upon the Milford squad.

Headlining the list is sophomore Ana Manning who was chosen the ECC’s Offensive Player of the Year as well as one of the top vote getters in the Southwest District. Joining Manning as all-district and first team All-ECC choices are senior Lyric Birkley and junior Skylar Helms. Sophomore Caitlin Evans was also a first team All-ECC choice, while senior Sophie Wohl and juniors Peyton Cook and Jessie Nagel earned second team league honors. Sophomore Peyton Smith was tabbed honorable mention.

And the Eagles’ leader, head coach Jill Helms was also recognized, being voted by her peers as the ECC Coach of the Year and co-coach of the year in the district. She becomes the first league coach of the year for the Eagles’ program since 2012.

On her way to a second straight ECC first team honor, Manning had another monster season. This fall she led the league in both goals (15) and points (36). She becomes the first Eagle woman to earn league player of the year honors since MHS Hall of Famer Morgan Wolcott in 2011.

Birkley is now a three-time All-ECC award winner after earning second team as a sophomore and honorable mention last year. During her senior campaign, the Bridgewater College commit was second in the ECC in assists (11), third in points (29) and fifth in goals (9). Lyric has also been chosen for the District All-Star Game which will be held at CHCA on Sunday, November 14 at 2:30 pm. Her coach for the game will be Coach Helms as she has been selected as one of the coaches for the event.

In their first all-conference award-winning seasons, Helms and Evans were rock solid defenders for an Eagle defense that yielded only 13 goals in 19 matches. Helms added one goal offensively, while Evans had two goals and five assists.

Yet another first time all league choice is Wohl, bound for Anderson (SC) University next fall. Her senior campaign featured solid defense, along with two goals and an assist. Known for her speed, Cook blazed her way to four goals and four assists and her first All-ECC mention.

Nagel played every minute in goal for the Eagles this fall, pitching eight shutouts and recording a save percentage of nearly 86%. She too is a first time all-ECC selection. Rounding out the Eagle honorees is Smith. Just a sophomore, her second year as a high school player saw her finish with four goals and three assists.

Milford completed its first unbeaten regular season this fall, captured a share of the ECC Championship and advanced to the OHSAA District Finals.
