Postseason Honors Roll In For Eagles Softball
Highlighted by senior Katelyn Reynolds, six members of the 2019 Milford High School softball team have been honored for their play during the recently completed season. Reynolds was chosen by the Eastern Cincinnati Conference coaches as the league’s 2019 Player of the Year. She was also recognized as one of the top players in Ohio with second team all-state recognition.
Reynolds was one of three Eagles to be placed on the All-ECC first team, as she was joined by the standout sophomore duo of Sam Boothby and Olivia Craycraft. The ECC second team featured a pair of Eagles as sophomore Emily Allphin and freshman Taylor Stemmerding were honored. Junior Lilly Copp was Milford’s honorable mention choice for this year.
Reynolds was one of the most respected players in the ECC, finishing the year with a .417 batting average, six doubles, a triple, a home run and 19 RBI. She also walked a team-best 20 times and swiped two bases. The University of Akron signee was even better behind the plate, throwing out nine of 13 attempted base stealers and committing just four errors in over 130 total chances.
After missing much of her freshman year, Boothby burst on the scene in a big way this spring. At the plate, Boothby ranked second on the team with a .486 batting average, ripped eight doubles and knocked in 20 runs. The sophomore lefty also took over the primary pitching role for the Eagles and responded by leading the ECC with 14 victories. Along with a 2.62 ERA over 93.1 innings, Boothby fanned 61.
Craycraft was a huge weapon at the top of the Milford batting order, as she won the ECC batting title with a .557 average and stole a league-high 25 bases in 26 tries. The sophomore finished with 10 doubles, a team-high four triples and 18 RBI.
Allphin anchored the middle of the Eagles’ batting order and was tops in the league with 41 RBI. Overall, Allphin batted 452, with team-highs of 13 doubles and five home runs. She also paced the squad with an .810 slugging percentage. Allphin also appeared in two games as a pitcher, going 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA and eight strikeouts.
Stemmerding had an immediate impact as a freshman, hitting .423 in her first prep campaign. Playing an errorless centerfield, Stemmerding finished with 11 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 24 RBI.
Copp was Milford’s starting rightfielder and was solid at the plate as well. Copp finished her junior year hitting .340 with three doubles, nine RBI and three stolen bases.
