Postseason Opens at Sectional Tournament For Boys Bowling

THE UPCOMING DOCKET:  With the regular season complete, Milford’s boys bowling team will now turn their attention to the OHSAA Division I Southwest Sectional Tournament which will be held at Crossgate Lanes in Blue Ash. 

The draw for the boys at the South Tournament at Crossgate Lanes includes Anderson, Fairfield, Harrison, Lakota West, Lebanon, Little Miami, Loveland, Mason, Milford, Middletown, Moeller, New Richmond, Ross, Sycamore, St. Xavier and West Clermont. Previously this season Milford swept Anderson, split the series with Loveland, and dropped both matches with West Clermont.  The team also won at Lakota West and St. Xavier, but lost a close one with New Richmond.

The top seven teams, and the top seven individuals not advancing as part of a team will qualify for the District Tournament, which will be held the following week on Wed., Feb. 27 at Beaver-Vu Lanes near Dayton.

Thursday, Feb. 21:           Milford at OHSAA Sectional Tournament, Crossgate Lanes, 9:00 am

Despite an outstanding season in 2018, the Milford boys bowling team missed advancing out of the Sectional Tournament.  Milford finished eleventh of fifteen teams.

 

A LOOK BACK:

February 11 at Milford: Milford 2612, Turpin 2274

For the final time on the home lanes the Eagles were victorious in their final conference match, this one over Turpin, and the win capped a day when the team and fans honored seniors Nathan Hawkins, Michael Kozakiewicz and Eric Smith prior to the baker games.  Nick Murphy’s 217 in game two was the top Milford game, while Franklin Abt (422 series) improved his average with single games of 209 and 213.  The Eagles easily defeated the Spartans with two games from A.J. Kaylor (402 series) and Murphy (388 series), and single games of 204 from Kyle Fanning, 170 from Nathan Hawkins, and a 114 from Michael Kozakiewicz.

 

A LOOK INSIDE THE NUMBERS: West Clermont ends the regular season as ECC Champions with a 11-1 record, their only loss to Kings who will finish 10-2.  Milford ends the year at 8-4 in third followed by Loveland at 7-5.  Walnut Hills Anderson and Turpin all close the season at 2-10.

A look at Milford’s individual statistical leaders in the ECC as of Feb. 17:

Average: Hawkins (3rd – 200.7); Abt (7th – 190.0); Nick Murphy (10th – 186.1)

High Game: Hawkins (6th – 257); Abt (t-7th – 256); Kaylor (t-7th – 256)

Series High: Hawkins (1st – 506); Abt (6th – 476); Kaylor (8th – 464)
