SETTING THE SCENE:  Now 11-5 overall, Milford’s boys volleyball team celebrated Connor Brumagen, Hayden Gibson and David Olsen on Senior Night last week. With just one match on the schedule for the week ahead, the Eagles will get some rest before easing into the postseason.  The OHSBVA tournament schedule is expected to be released soon.

A LOOK BACK: Milford hosted McNicholas on Monday, and fell in three straight sets.  The Eagles made it difficult for the #10 Rockets, losing the first two sets by only 2 points, both scores of 25-23.  McNicholas ended the match with a 25-17 win in set three.

Tuesday’s win 3-1 win over Walnut Hills also served as Senior Night, when the Eagles honored three teammates; Connor Brumagen, Hayden Gibson and David Olsen.  Milford won a close first set 25-23, but lost set two 23-25 to an improved Walnut team.  The Eagles of Milford prevailed, with 25-12 and 25-13 victories in the third and fourth sets.  The win also give Milford at least a share of the unofficial Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship with Loveland.

Milford’s final match was held Thursday at Colerain resulting in a 3-0 victory. Wins of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-15 completed the season sweep over the Cardinals.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Milford’s lone date on the schedule for the week ahead is a rematch with Princeton, ranked last week as No. 7 in the OHSBVA poll and #9 in the Enquirer’s area coaches poll.  The Eagles upset the Vikings earlier in the season, 3-1.

  • Wednesday, 5/10:        Milford @ Princeton High School, 6:45 pm

POLL WATCH:  Milford rose a spot to ninth in the South Region of the OHSBVA poll for the week ending May 7th.  Moeller moved up two spots to overtake Elder, followed by St. Xavier and LaSalle.  Fairfield moved into fifth, while McNicholas rose to sixth from eighth.  Loveland joined Milford in the top ten.

Once again, Elder, St. Xavier, Moeller, Lakota East and LaSalle occupy the top five positions in the Cincinnati Enquirer’s area coaches’ poll for week six.  Milford did not receive votes this week; Walnut Hills (3) and Loveland (1) each received votes.
