Princeton/Lakota East, Horning Memorial Tournament Ahead For MHS Wrestling

Posted on: January 15, 2017

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Eagles have two on the schedule this week; they will head to Princeton for a tri-match and to Mason for the James V. Horning Memorial Tournament.   Looking ahead, Milford will be on the mats at the OHSAA Regional Dual Team Tournament.  The first round, when #7 Milford will face #2 Lakota West, will be held Wed., 1/25 at 5:00 pm.  Location will be announced when available.

A LOOK BACK:  In another exciting dual meet finish, the Eagles almost ran the tables in the last four matches for the win but lost a close one to Indian Hill, 38-31.  Three wrestlers moved up a weight class this week, including senior Graham Martin at 182 who started with a 13-6 win.  Classmate Blake Miller won a major decision 11-3 at 195, before Haidyn Oberschlake lost by fall at 220, but not before running up a 12-5 lead.  Senior Daniel Wilson, at 285, finished the night for the Eagles with a fall in the first period.

Six wrestlers made their varsity debut.  Collecting big wins from that group: freshmen Isaac Sheldon at 113; Luke Schneider at 120; and a takedown clinic put on by Haidyn Oberschlake.  Experience gained at Indian Hill will prepare this group for more varsity matches and success in the future.
