Rematch With ECC Foe Withrow Next On Boys Soccer Tournament Trail

SETTING THE SCENE: After a convincing win to open the tournament, the Milford High School boys soccer team will now face a familiar foe when fellow Eastern Cincinnati Conference member Withrow visits Eagle Stadium on Thursday night for OHSAA Tournament action. The Eagles bounced Northwest by a 5-1 score earlier this week in the opening round of play to improve to 12-3-2 on the season. This will be the second meeting between Milford and Withrow in the last month, following a 2-0 Eagle triumph on Sept. 27.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s OHSAA Tournament opponent:

  • Thursday, Oct. 18 vs. Withrow {at Eagle Stadium}, 7:00 p.m.
    • 2018 Record: 6-8-0, 1-6-0 ECC (NR Division I area coaches’ final weekly poll)
    • Top Scorer: Senior Shemar Pinnock (13 G, 2 A, 28 pts.)
    • Last Meeting: 2018; Milford 2, Withrow 0
    • Series History: Milford leads 15-0-0

 

A LOOK BACK: Oct. 15 vs. Northwest: Senior Cole Cambron scored a pair of goals and freshman Ryan Henke scored once and assisted on a second, leading Milford to a 5-1 victory over Northwest in the opening round of the OHSAA Tournament. For Cambron, the two goals marked numbers six and seven on the year, while Henke also tallied his seventh score. Another senior Aaron Bumgarner recorded his second goal of 2018, while junior Noah Hjelming had his first marker of the year. The victory also marked the 14th consecutive year the Eagles won their OHSAA Tournament opener.

The schedule for ECC teams still alive in the tournament includes: No. 3 Turpin vs. No. 11 Elder (Oct. 18, 7:00 p.m. at Turpin), No. 4 Anderson vs. No. 14 LaSalle (Oct. 18, 7:00 p.m. at Anderson), No. 6 Loveland vs. No. 11 Lakota East (Oct. 18, 7:00 p.m. at Loveland) and No. 10 Walnut Hills vs. No. 19 Colerain (Oct. 18, 7:00 p.m. at Walnut Hills).

POLL WATCH: Milford finished eighth in the final Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. Moeller was crowned this season’s poll champions, after earning all but one of the 17 first place votes. St. Xavier, Turpin, Anderson and a tie between Loveland and Mason complete the top-five. Ninth place Carroll earned the other No. 1 vote. In addition to four ECC teams in the top-10, Kings and Walnut Hills are among other schools receiving votes. ROUND, BURNETT WIN ENQUIRER AWARDS: Junior Joey Round and Noah Burnett, thanks to the support of Eagle Nation, have each been voted the winner of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Boys Soccer Player of the Week Award this season. Round won his award on Sept. 7, while Burnett was honored on Sept. 14.
