Posted on: October 4, 2017

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Eagles return from their midseason break for the Ross Invitational.  They will do so with momentum following their first team championship at the Harrison Invitational.

A LOOK BACK:  Two weeks ago, the Eagles overcame the heat to claim the championship at the Harrison Invitational, their best team finish of the season thus far.  Clayton Virzi (16.40) won the individual championship, while Harris Craycraft (17.06) finished second.  Peter Kroeger joined his teammates in the top ten with a time of 17.49, and Sean Vonderhaar (18th, 18.06) ended his day in the top twenty. Other Eagles helping Milford to the victory:  Dylan Mullarkey (28th, 28.25); Will Stout (54th, 19.08); and Karl Chavez (61st, 19.24).

Little Miami and Summit Country Day finished behind Milford in second and third of the twelve teams competing.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The Eagles, who have been idle since the Harrison Invite, will have had some rest before heading into the final regular season run at the Ross Invitational.  The Ross Invite is scheduled for Oct. 7 at Ross High School.  The varsity boys race is scheduled for a 9:40 am start; the boys open at 11:00 am.  Note that admission will be charged at the gate: $4 adults; $2 students/62+/veterans.

INSIDE THE ECC:  Clayton Virzi maintained third in the ECC standings, followed by Harris Craycraft in eighth. Other Milford runners in the top third of the conference include Sean Vonderhaar (38th), Peter Kroeger (45th), Dylan Mullarkey (66th), Will Stout (70th), Brian Wang (83rd), and Karl Chavez (85th).

POLL WATCH:  The Cincinnati Enquirer’s area coaches’ poll for week six was recently released, and there were no changes in the top five: St. Xavier, Mason, Elder, the ECC’s Kings and Lakota East maintained their positions.  Turpin entered the top ten, in eighth, but Anderson, previously ranked seventh, fell out of the poll.  Anderson (23), Loveland (13) and Walnut Hills (1) received votes but Milford, who was idle last week, did not receive votes in the coaches’ poll for week six.
