Season closes for Bronaugh, Ward at District Wrestling Championship

Posted on: March 4, 2018

Despite some great wrestling at OHSAA Division I District Championship for wrestlers Kobey Bronaugh and Max Ward, both advanced to the second day but were unable to advance to the State Championship Meet.

Bronaugh opened the tournament with an 8-1 loss to LaSalle’s Casey Wiles, who advanced to the final at #126 and finished second.  Bronaugh, however, went on a tear through the consolation bracket with two quick falls; a 58 second fall of Grant Middleton on Little Miami and a 1:54 victory by fall over Lakota West’s Andrew Oeters.  Bronaugh next scored a 9-4 win against Tanner Donathon of Western Brown, setting him up with a meeting across from Mason’s Dylan Waugh.  Bronaugh lost in a heartbreakingly close 2-1 score.  The loss moved him into the fifth place match, where he lost again by just one point, 4-3 to one of the top seeds, Bailey Suddeth of Butler.

Ward dropped the opening round match with Mason Kleinberg of Springboro, but came back with two wins in the consolation rounds.  Ward advanced with a 6-4 OT win over Logan Vickrey of Oak Hills, and a fall over Trevor Landon of Fairborn in 4:27. From there, he lost by fall to Jedidiah Marlow of Western Brown, who went on to finish in fifth.
