Season Opens at Kings Quad Meet for Boys Track and Field

Posted on: March 26, 2019

PREVIEWING THE EAGLES:  Now in his fifth year as head coach, Shane Bartholomew will once again lead the Eagles into the 2019 season.  The team’s fourth place finish at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championships last season was the best for a Milford boys track and field team since the inception of the ECC in 2012-2013.  The boys finished just 4 points shy of third place, behind Withrow, Kings and Turpin.

The 2019 team will be without a number of leaders lost to graduation, particularly in the mid to long distance events as well as hurdles.  However, upperclassmen with experience will be joined by first-time track athletes as the Eagles hope to continue the progress made over the past few seasons.

Senior AJ Dickerson quickly became an integral member of the 2018 squad, his first year competing in track and field.  In the 800 meter run, Dickerson ran to a 2nd place finish at the ECC Meet, 1st at the Hamilton and Milford Invitationals, and 2nd at the New Richmond Invite.  He was also a member of the 4x800 relay team that took 1st place at both the New Richmond and Hamilton Invitationals.  Dickerson earned second team all-ECC in 2018.

Sprinter Dylan Hughes will also return.  The senior finished 4th in the 100 meter dash and 5th in the 200 meter dash at the ECC Championship Meet.  Hughes was a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams that each placed 3rd at the meet as well.  He ended the year ranked 3rd in the ECC for the 100 meter dash, and received all-conference honorable mention for 2018, his first season participating in track.

Others to watch include seniors Jared Engelman, Dustin Laudermilk and Owen Martin, all members of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams that took 3rd at the 2018 ECC Championships.  Senior Nate Flannery will return to the field for the shot put and discus, joined by sophomore Logan Horton who took 4th in the high jump at the 2018 ECC Meet.  New athletes on the team to keep an eye on include sophomores Eli Dickerson (mid-distance) and A.J. Kaylor (distance), and freshman Keisean Irvin (hurdles).

A LOOK AHEAD:  Milford will open the season at the Kings Quad meet.  Looking ahead, the Eagles will be at the Moeller Invitational the first week of April.
