Second Annual Aerie Awards Honor Milford’s Best For 2022-23

The best of the best among Milford High School student-athletes gathered on May 23 for the second annual Aerie Awards. The awards are named for the large nest of a bird of prey, especially an Eagle. The awards were voted on by Milford student-athletes and coaches. Award #1: Athletic Partner of the Year
Andy Cullen (Cullen Electric)

Award #2: Media Sports Award
This award goes to people who have been so helpful to Milford Athletics and helping promote our Student Athletes! Without them, the content that we get to put out wouldn't be the same! This Media Sports Awards goes to our two amazing photographers who take amazing pictures of our student athletes… Bree Teague and Gabbi Sluder!

Award #3: Male Sports Team of the Year (Small Sports)
This award goes to a male sports team with 14 or less on their varsity roster that shows great strides for their program both on and off the field and has experienced overwhelming team success.

Nominees: Tennis, Golf, Cross Country, Swim & Dive, Water Polo, Volleyball

Award #4: Female Sports Team of the Year (Small Sports)
This award goes to a female sports team that shows great strides for their program both on and off the field and has experienced overwhelming team success.

Nominees: Tennis, Dance, Golf, Girls Wrestling, Water Polo, Swim & Dive

Award #5: Female Coach of the Year (Small Sports)
This award goes to a Milford coach that has shown passion and dedication for her team and has created an everlasting impact.

Nominees: Jessi Wendelken (Dance), Amy Gill (Girls Volleyball), Katie O’Bryan (Girls Golf)

Award #6: Female Coach of the Year (Large Sports)
This award also goes to a Milford coach that goes above and beyond for their programs and has a strong impact on the student athletes.

Nominees: Jill Helms (Girls Soccer), Alicia Wall (Competitive Cheer), Megan Stilwell (Swimming), Christy Gregory (Softball)

Award #7: Breakthrough Female Team of the Year
This team has improved dramatically from the previous year and on the cusp of greatness.

Nominees: Basketball, Wrestling, Volleyball, Tennis

Award #8: Breakthrough Male Team of the Year
This team has made drastic improvements in the year to make great strides in their programs.

Nominees: Basketball, Football, Tennis, Cross Country

Award #9: Female Sports Team of the Year (Large Sports)
Female sports team that shows great strides for their program both on and off the field and has experienced overwhelming team success.

Nominees: Soccer, Cheer, Lacrosse, Volleyball, Softball, Basketball

Award #10: Male Sports Team of the Year (Large Sports)
This award of the night goes to a male sports team that shows great strides for their program both on and off the field and has experienced overwhelming team success.

Nominees: Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Track & Field, Boys Basketball

Award #11: Female Flock Leader of the Year
This award is given to a student who displays exemplary leadership within the Flock and promotes positive sportsmanship and school spirit.

Nominees: Maria Rust, Tate Gormley, Avery Fielman

Award #12: Male Flock Leader of the Year
This award is given to a student who displays exemplary leadership within the Flock and promotes positive sportsmanship and school spirit.

Award #13: Male Coach of the Year (Small Sports)
The Male Coach of the Year goes to a Milford coach that has shown passion and dedication for his team and has created an everlasting impact.

Nominees: Michael Neverman (Tennis), Andy Horn (Boys Golf), Patrick Fagan (Track & Field), Jason Babinec (Girls Wrestling)

Award #14: Male Coach of the Year (Large Sports)
These next set of coaches have gone above and beyond for their student athletes. They put the time and effort in to make their program strive.

Nominees: Conor Peck (Boys Lacrosse), Brandon Baker (Boys Basketball), Tom Grippa (Football), Brian Croston (Boys Soccer), Matt Tolliver (Girls Basketball)

Award #15: Male Career Milestone of the Year
This award goes to a male athlete with a cumulative career milestone or record set during their high school career at Milford.

Nominees: Nick Haskins (Soccer - most career assists and points scored), Luke Ray (Lacrosse - 100 career goals and 175 points scored career), Erich Morgan (Basketball - 57 three-point FG’s made in a season), Austin Hardin (Football - most TD’s, passing yards, completions and completion % season/career), Bryce Burleson (Lacrosse - 500th career faceoff win)

Award #16: Female Career Milestone of the Year
This award goes to a female athlete with a cumulative career milestone or record set during their high school career at Milford.

Nominees: Ana Manning (Soccer - most career goals and points scored), Miah O’Toole (Basketball - 67 three-pointers made in a season and seven three-pointers made in a game), Erin Fentress (Swimming - 50 freestyle {23.55}, 100 freestyle {51.42}, 200 freestyle {1:54.66}), Emma Schaefer (Lacrosse - 437 career saves), Lauren Pickett (Volleyball - 800 assists on the season and 1,500 in her career)

Award #17: Moment/Highlight of the Year
This award goes to an outstanding and memorable moments in either a game, match, meet or competition in the 2022-2023 school year.

Nominees: Girls Soccer beating MND/ #1 in State; Football 48-47 win over Anderson; Cam Livingston diving touchdown vs. Lebanon; boys tennis season-best record in school history, 14-1; boys lacrosse going 8-0 and clinching ECC Championship; girls basketball game vs Fairfield, last minute three-pointer to win, 52-51; Nolan Littrell bowling a 299; boys basketball win against Turpin; baseball walk-off win against Anderson

Award #18: Sportswoman of the Year
This award is given to an individual female athlete who shows great involvement and positive leadership in their community and school. The Sportswoman of the Year is a model example of all the qualities and characteristics we should strive to be as student-athletes at Milford High School.

Nominees: Avery Fielman, Maria Rust, Ana Manning, Cameron Manning, Miah O’Toole, Ava Hassert, Summer Hale

Award #19: Sportsman of the Year
This award is given to an individual male athlete who shows great involvement and positive leadership in their community and school. The Sportsman of the Year is a model example of all the qualities and characteristics we should strive to be as student-athletes at Milford High School.

Nominees: Yusif Rustom, Jacob Smith, Sawyer Copp, Toto Luani, Charlie Vause, Erich Morgan, Luke Eminger

Award #20: Male Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year
This award is given to a male athlete who has competed and excelled in 2 or more sports during 2022-2023.

Nominees: Jacob Smith, Toto Luani, Luke Ray, Michael Kirk, Chase Herrell, Nick Scally, Kyle Dannemiller

Award #21: Female Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year
This award is given to a female athlete who has competed and excelled in 2 or more sports during 2022-2023.

Nominees: Kelsey McKenney, Caitlin Evans, Avery Fielman, Zara Brown, Campbell Robinson

Award #22: Female Athlete of the Year
The Female Athlete of the Year goes to a female student-athlete who had the most outstanding season and/or year in their respective sport or sports. This includes having a profound impact on their team and notable reputation as a fierce competitor and impact athlete by their team, schools in our league, and around Southwest Ohio.

Award #23: Male Athlete of the Year

The Male Athlete of the Year goes to a male student-athlete who had the most outstanding season and/or year in their respective sport or sports. This includes having a profound impact on their team and notable reputation as a fierce competitor and impact athlete by their team, schools in our league, and around Southwest Ohio.

Nominees: Jacob Smith, Luke Ray, Yusif Rustom, Erich Morgan, Nick Haskins, Nick Scally, Nolan Littrell

Award #24: Courageous Student-Athlete Award
The Courageous Student-Athlete Award goes to a student-athlete who has dealt with serious injury, illness, or adversity in their personal life and/or by a family member and overcame a difficult situation.

Nominees: Tofa Luani, Sawyer Copp, Katie Tatum, Max Groetsch, Jillian Schneider, Whitney Sluder

Award #25: Male Rising Award
This award goes to a rising male athlete who is a freshman or sophomore who has made a significant contribution to a varsity team.

Nominees: Nick Henke, Jackson Connor, Quinn Zurmehly, Carter Haun, Emmett Fentress

Award #26: Female Rising Award
This award goes to a rising female athlete who is a freshman or sophomore who has made a significant contribution to a varsity team.

Nominees: Rachel Morgan, Violet Shuluga, Ella Crompton, Audrey Fox, Lanie McCoy, Hadley Robinson, Camille Hutzel, Meghan McClellan

Award #27: Tough as Nails/Grit Award
This award goes to a male or female athlete who has displayed exemplary toughness and grit through their respective athletic season and off-season.

Nominees: Miah O’Toole, Katie Tatum, Bryce Burleson, Catie Willson, Cameron Ruppel

Award #28: Wings Up Team Service & Volunteerism Award
This award goes to a team/program that goes above and beyond to give back to the community through volunteerism and/or does charitable work for a local non-for profit organization/cause.

Nominees: Girls Lacrosse, Girls Cross Country, Cheer, Girls Soccer
