Senior Night Ahead As Regular Season Closes For Boys Bowling

SETTING THE SCENE:  With a 9-3 conference record, the Milford boys bowling team secured a second place finish in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference.   Milford’s bowling program will celebrate seniors Josh Cooper, Jacob Donovan, Rodney Gorley and Nathan McGeorge when the team hosts their final match of the regular season.  With a win over Clark Montessori, the Eagles will end the year with an impressive 15-4 overall record heading into the postseason.

 

A LOOK BACK:  History was made on Mon., Jan. 29 as Milford took on Mason at Mason Bowl.  Nathan McGeorge set a new school record by registering a 516 two-game series.  The previous record was 502, held by McGeorge and teammate Josh Cooper.  His 268 in game two was a career high single game as well.  Josh Cooper averaged 229.5 on the day with a 459 series.  Nathan Hawkins (383), Rodney Gorley (324) and Nick Murphy (269) each added two game, but it wasn’t enough to defeat #4 Mason and the Eagles fell to the Comets 3028-2751.

The Eagles faced the ECC’s Kings for the first time on Tues., Jan. 30, but the Knights won by just thirty-two pins, 2751-2719.  McGeorge again led the Eagles with a 463 high series and 231.5 average.  Gorley (387) and Cooper (375) and Murphy (341) helped Milford to a 2719 team score in the loss.

Milford avenged Tuesday’s loss with a 2792-2395 win on Wed., Jan. 31 to even the series with Kings. McGeorge remained on a roll, this time with a 460 series and with Gorley just behind with a series of 458.  Cooper (366) and Murphy (348) added two games each, while Franklin Abt scored 180 in his first varsity appearance, and Hawkins added a 158 in game one in the win.

  

A LOOK AHEAD:  The Eagles will wrap up the regular season at home, hosting Clark Montessori at Cherry Grove Lanes.  Seniors Josh Cooper, Jacob Donovan, Rodney Gorley, and Nathan McGeorge will be recognized prior to the final home match of the season.

The team will then turn their attention to the OHSAA Sectional Tournament, to be held on Wed., Feb. 21st.

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  West Clermont enters the last week of conference play at 10-0, and will play Loveland in the week ahead.  Milford fell to 9-3 after a loss to Kings, who improved to 6-4.  Loveland sits at 5-5 followed by Anderson (3-7), Turpin (2-8) and Walnut Hills at 1-9 after a win over Loveland.  Milford (963.5) and West Clermont (963.8) are in a virtual tie for team average.

Four Milford bowlers remain in the top ten of all ECC individual categories, with Josh Cooper leading the league for high game, and Nathan McGeorge leading the league in overall average and high series:

Josh Cooper:  overall average (3rd – 207.3); high game (1st - 300); series high (t-6th – 479)

Rodney Gorley:  overall average (7th – 197.8); high game (t-10th – 256); series high (3rd – 500)

Nathan Hawkins:  overall average (8th – 197.6); high game (6th – 263); series high (4th – 498)

Nathan McGeorge:  overall average (1st – 214.2); high game (3rd - 268); series high (1st – 516)

POLL WATCH:  A number of changes occurred in week twelve of the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll.  Oak Hills moved to the top of the poll over Elder, who fell to second.  Mason and Northwest are now tied for third, and Fairfield moved up to fifth, replacing LaSalle who fell to sixth. West Clermont of the ECC fell in the rankings as well, from ninth to tenth. Milford sits just outside the top ten with twelve votes, while Kings received one vote in week twelve.  Click HERE for the most recent area coaches’ poll.
