The Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that seven more members of its Class of 2019 will continue their athletic careers on the collegiate level. The student-athletes that have committed to continuing their academic and athletic futures include: Jake Ayler (Football-Mount St. Joseph University), Dylan Hughes (Football-Eastern Illinois University), Calvin Hunter (Baseball-Marshall University), Dustin Laudermilk (Football-Mount St. Joseph University), Brian Stevens (Football-University of Dayton), Jacob Turner (Football-Georgetown College) and Jacob Wehrman (Football & Volleyball-Thomas More University).

Ayler was a two-time first team All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference selection. He also picked up honorable mention All-Southwest Ohio honors as a senior. Ayler excelled from his slot receiver position, hauling in a team-high 53 passes for 743 yards and five touchdowns, including an 85-yarder. The versatile senior added 33 yards rushing and four touchdowns, returned a punt for a score, blocked another punt and had the victory-sealing interception in the playoff win over Fairfield.

At Mount St. Joseph, Ayler will play for head coach Tyler Hopperton. Jake is the son of Kirk and Kristin Ayler.

Hughes was also a two-time All-ECC choice, including a spot on the first team as a senior. Despite being hampered by injury late in the year, Hughes finished with over 900 yards receiving. As Milford’s biggest deep threat in the passing game, Hughes had 51 catches for 929 yards and 10 touchdowns on the year. He also led the Eagles with 254 yards on kick returns.

At Eastern Illinois, Hughes will play for head coach Adam Cushing. Dylan is the son of Tim and Monica Hughes.

Hunter was a first team All-City and All-ECC selection last spring. He was one of a slew of multi-threat talents for the Eagles, proving to be a dangerous weapon at the plate and on the mound in his first varsity campaign. At the dish, Hunter led the Eagles with a .394 batting average and a .577 slugging percentage on the strength of eight doubles, a triple and a home run, along with 18 RBI. On the hill, Hunter posted a perfect 4-0 record and a 1.08 ERA in five starts, striking out 30.

At Marshall, Hunter will play for head coach Jeff Waggoner. Calvin is the son of Kristopher and Allison Hunter.

Laudermilk finished his senior campaign as a first team All-ECC and second team All-Southwest District recipient. He was one of the top defensive backs in the conference, as well as a dangerous player in the return game. Despite missing one game, Laudermilk recorded 55 tackles, nine pass break ups, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He also recorded over 200 yards on returns, including a 79-yard punt return for a TD.

At Mount St. Joseph, Laudermilk will play for head coach Tyler Hopperton. Dustin is the son of Ricky and Ashley Laudermilk.

Like Laudermilk, Stevens wrapped his high school career, being recognized as a first team All-ECC and second team All-Southwest District award winner. Stevens was relentless on defense, leading the team with five sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss, among his 71 total stops. He also forced two fumbles, recovered two and broke up a pass. In addition to moonlighting on the offensive line, Stevens also handled the punting duties for the Eagles, averaging 39.5 yards per boot.

At Dayton, Stevens will play for head coach Rick Chamberlin. Brian is the son of Tom and Terry Stevens.

Turner had a breakout season as a senior on his way to second team All-ECC honors. Turner was another beast on defense, rotating between defensive line and linebacker. In 12 games, Turner ranked second on the squad with 82 tackles, including 3.5 behind the line. He had one sack, an interception and a forced fumble.

At Georgetown, an NAIA school in Georgetown, Ky., Turner will play for head coach Bill Cronin. Jacob is the son of Claude and Tracy Turner.

Wehrman was a key member of the Milford passing game as a wide receiver. During his senior season, he hauled in eight passes for 89 yards, while also serving as the Eagles’ long snapper. Standing 6’4”, Wehrman has used his height to also excel on the volleyball court for the Eagles during his career.

At Thomas More, Wehrman will play football for head coach Trevor Stellman and volleyball for head coach John Spinney. Jacob is the son of Chad and Sandra Wehrman.

These seven commitments bring the total to 13 members of the MHS Class of 2019 to announce college commitments for next year. Further signee information will be shared throughout the 2018-19 academic year as it is finalized.
