Short Break Ahead For Milford’s boys cross country team
SETTING THE SCENE: Milford’s boys cross country team is gaining momentum as they ready for their next meet, the Milford Invitational at Valley View Nature Preserve. Last weekend the squad headed to the Xavier University High School Invitational to run with a field of over 200 runners.
A LOOK BACK: Led by the seniors, Milford brought home a third place finish at the Xavier University High School Invitational. Clayton Virzi finished 2nd overall in a career personal best time of 16:23, the best time by a Milford Eagle in a number of years, and Harris Craycraft finished in 5th in 16:51. Sean Vonderhaar (16th) and Peter Kroeger (28th) both broke 18 minutes this week; Vonderhaar in 17.31 and Kroeger in 17.51. Will Stout (44th, 18.31) continued his scoring role for the Eagles as the fifth team finisher, with Brian Wang (51st, 18.46) and sophomore Karl Chavez (53rd, 18.49) finishing as Milford top seven runners.
Three the Eastern Cincinnati Conference teams led the Xavier Invite, as Anderson, Turpin and Milford finished as the top three of ten teams. Walnut Hills finished fifth, while West Clermont was ninth.

THE WEEK AHEAD: With no meet scheduled this week, Milford’s boys cross country squad will look ahead to hosting the Milford Invitational on Sat., Sept. 16th at Valley View.
INSIDE THE ECC: Following his career run at the Xavier Invitational, senior Clayton Virzi moved up to second in the ECC standings, just .02 behind Joe Ingram of Anderson. Classmate Harris Craycraft remained in the top ten ranking 4th after the second week of competition. Milford seniors maintain their hold in the standings, with Sean Vonderhaar at 22nd, Peter Kroeger in 32nd, Will Stout at 41st, and Brian Wang, 55th. Sophomore Karl Chavez (57th) again rounds out the leaders for Milford.
POLL WATCH: The race is tightening in the area Division I boys cross country coaches’ poll for week two. St. Xavier, Mason, Elder and the ECC’s Kings held onto the top four spots. However, Anderson rose from eighth to fifth and tied with Lakota East, while Turpin remained in ninth. Loveland (10 and Milford (3) both received votes in week two of the coaches’ poll.
