Six Eagles Named All-ECC Girls Soccer

Posted on: November 9, 2020

The Milford girls soccer team, following a highly successful campaign that finished with a 15-4 record, saw six of its players named to the All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference teams, including a trio of first team selections. Defensive stalwart Madalyn Blair, along with the high-scoring duo of senior Beth Cook and freshman Ana Manning were named to the first team. Freshman Caitlin Evans and senior Abby Nehlen grabbed second team accolades, while junior Lyric Birkley was honorable mention.

Blair was a key defender on an Eagle defense that yielded just 20 goals in 19 matches. Offensively, she scored a pair of goals for Milford.

Cook was one of the most prolific scorers in the league, tying for first place in the ECC with 13 goals, while ranking fourth with 27 points. She had a knack for scoring goals in bunches with two goals in Milford wins over Oak Hills, Winton Woods, Kings and Ursuline. Cook is now a two-time first team All-ECC selection.

Manning burst onto the scene in a big way, tying for second in the league with 28 points and finishing just one goal behind Cook to tie for third. She twice scored two goals in wins over Lebanon and Wyoming.

Evans was another key defender, helping the Eagles post four straight shutouts late in the regular season. She tacked on a pair of assists during the season as well.

Nehlen was yet another tough defender, as her play was key in seven shutouts turned in by the Milford D during 2020. She found the back of the net for one goal offensively.

Birkley was another big scorer for Milford, contributing five goals and adding seven assists for a total of 17 points. Her assist total tied for the third-highest amount in the ECC. Birkley had her biggest game of the year with two goals and an assist in a big win over Hamilton. This marks her second All-ECC honor, after earning second team honors last year.
