Posted on: April 11, 2021

April 7 at West Clermont: West Clermont 6, Milford 5

GAME REWIND
A Milford seventh-inning rally came up short as the Eagles fell for the first time in 2021 with a 6-5 defeat at rival West Clermont. Down three entering the final frame, Brooklyn Stewart drew the Eagles within a run with a two-RBI double and moved to third on a single by Mollie Bloom. But WC’s Reece Hampton retired the final two Eagle hitters to strand the tying and winning runs on base.

WC got a first inning run that was quickly matched on a Stewart home run in the second. Things got rough in the second for the Eagles as the Wolves plated four runs to take a 5-1 edge. Milford got two of the markers back in the third on RBI by Avery Fielman and Sam Boothby to claw within 5-3. West Clermont gave itself more breathing room with a single run in the sixth, setting the stage for the dramatic final half-inning.

GAME REWIND
Milford gave veteran head coach Christy Gregory her 300th career victory, opening Friday Night Lights with a solid 8-3 triumph over Wilmington. The Eagles scored the first six runs of the game and never looked back in scoring the win over the Hurricane.

The Eagles went to work early, scoring three times in the second, first on an RBI triple by hot hitting Brooklyn Stewart. Mollie Bloom plated the latter with a sacrifice fly, while a couple batters later, Olivia Craycraft ripped an RBI double for the third run of the inning.

Two innings later, the Eagles added another pair on RBI by Bloom and Craycraft. The lead grew to six in the fifth courtesy of a Wilmington error. The Hurriance scored their first two runs in the top of the sixth, but Milford matched in the bottom of the frame on a passed ball and a sac fly.

In the seventh, Wilmington got a run and loaded the bases which brought Emily Allphin into the circle in relief of Sam Boothby. The senior promptly recorded two outs for her fourth save of the campaign.

April 9 at Armco Park: Miamisburg 7, Milford 6

GAME REWIND
A wild game under Friday Night Lights saw Miamisburg walk-off with a 7-6 victory over Milford in a non-conference thriller. The Eagles jumped to a 5-0 lead after three innings, only to see the Vikings plate five in the fourth to tie the game. Milford went back ahead in the fifth, but two Viking runs in their last at-bat gave them the win.

An Avery Fielman RBI double in the first got the night’s scoring underway. In the second, Kaitlyn Bibb plated two more with a double and she later scored on a single by Taylor Stemmerding. A sixth run scored in the third off the bat of Bibb on an RBI double.

The five-run Miamisburg fourth was highlighted by a grand slam, but Milford went back in front in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Olivia Craycraft. In the bottom of the seventh, the Vikings got a one out triple to tie the game. After a walk and an intentional walk, Milford got a fly ball out for the second out, but the Vikings’ Grayce Dyer laced an RBI single to plate the winner.
