March 27 at Milford: Milford 7, Mercy McAuley 6

GAME REWIND
Milford jumped to a 6-0 lead then held off a furious Mercy McAuley comeback as it won its softball season opener with a 7-6 decision over the Wolves. The game was the Eagles’ first on the diamond in nearly 700 days.

Junior Taylor Stemmerding got her junior season off on a high note, with three doubles. Sam Boothby picked up the win in the circle and added three hits at the plate, including an RBI triple.

The Eagles started hot, scoring twice in the first inning, three more in the second and a single marker in the fourth. Boothby retired the first eight Wolves in a row but ran into trouble in the fifth. Emily Allphin slid over from third base to relieve the lefty, putting out the fire and finishing with 2.1 innings for her first save of the year.
