March 29 at Kings: Milford 14, Kings 11

GAME REWIND
A wild slugfest saw Milford score the game’s final three runs as the Eagles hung on for a 14-11 win at Kings. The Eagles pounded out 15 hits, including a double and home run by Avery Fielman, while Sam Boothby started in the circle, moved to first base, then returned to relieve winning pitcher Emily Allphin and pick up the save.

The Eagles started fast with five runs in the first, including two-run singles by Fielman and Boothby. But the Knights answered with five of their own in the bottom of the frame to set the stage for the wild day.

Milford exploded again in the third, this time with six runs to take an 11-5 lead. Fielman was the hero again, this time with a three-run homer. Once again, Kings wouldn’t stay down for long as they scored three each in the third and fifth innings to tie the score at 11.

A sixth inning Kings error and two more miscues in the seventh allowed the Eagles to draw in front for good and the final 14-11 score.

GAME REWIND
For the second time in three days, Milford handed ECC rival Kings a defeat, this time with a 7-3 triumph. The big hit of the day belonged to senior Emily Allphin as her two-run home run in the third pushed the Eagles into the lead to stay. In the circle, Allphin returned the favor from Monday’s game to fellow hurler Sam Boothby as she picked up a save after the latter did the same in game one.

With the score tied at one heading into the bottom of the third, Allphin went deep for her first longball of the spring. Mollie Bloom tacked on a two-run double later in the frame for a 4-1 Eagle lead.

After Kings got within 5-3, Milford scored two more in the fifth to gain some breathing room. Following consecutive walks to open the sixth, Allphin took to the circle and put out the fire over the next two innings to earn her second save of the season.
