May 3 at Milford: Milford 8, Lebanon 5

A game that could go a long way to deciding the ECC Championship went the way of Milford as Sam Boothby’s home run and four RBI propelled the Eagles to an 8-5 win over Lebanon. The Eagles overcame an early 2-0 deficit and later pulled away from the Warriors for the victory.

The day didn’t get off to the start the Eagles hoped for as Alyssa Langston homered to lead off the game. Two innings later, Langston raced home on a wild pitch to put the Warriors up 2-0. But as they have done so many times this season, the Eagles put a crooked number on the scoreboard to go in front.

In the third, Olivia Craycraft led off a single and came all the way around to score two batters later on an Emily Allphin double. Avery Fielman followed with a two-bagger of her own that scored courtesy runner Brooke Stansell. Following a Brooklyn Stewart double, Boothby ripped the first pitch she saw over the centerfield wall for her fourth homer of the season.

Lebanon stormed back in the fourth to within one with a two-run fourth, but the Eagles answered in the bottom of the fifth with a Boothby RBI double and a Lebanon error to score two more.

In the sixth, the Warriors got back within 7-5, but Fielman gave the Eagles extra breathing room with a sacrifice fly to score Craycraft.

The victory leaves Milford alone at the top of the ECC standings at 14-1, ahead of Lebanon and West Clermont, each at 11-2. The win is also Milford’s 20th of the season, marking the program’s sixth 20-win campaign in the last seven seasons that have been played.
