Swimming Foursome Lead Cincinnati Enquirer Winter All-Stars

The talented swimming foursome of Tyler Babinec, Chase Fisher, Sam Leatherwood and Branham Leavens headline the list of Milford High School student athletes honored by the Cincinnati Enquirer with inclusion on the 2017-18 Winter All-Star teams. Babinec, a multi-time placer at the OHSAA State Championships was a first team selection, while his trio of teammates picked up second team honors.

 

Babinec enjoyed another outstanding campaign as a junior, capping it off with a fifth place finish in the state in the 100 breaststroke; one year after finishing third in the event. In Eastern Cincinnati Conference action, Babinec was a three-time all-league selection this year, including a two-time first team honoree. Babinec was the conference champion in the 100 butterfly, while joining Fisher, Leatherwood and Leavens in winning the 200 freestyle relay crown. The foursome also qualified for the state championship meet in the event.

 

The success of Fisher, Leatherwood and Leavens wasn’t limited to just the 200 freestyle relay. Fisher was the 50 freestyle ECC Conference Champion and the runner-up in the 100 freestyle. He qualified for the OHSAA District Championship in both of the events as well. Leatherwood was the league’s runner-up in the 200 freestyle and qualified for districts in the event and the 100 backstroke. The foursome was also district qualifiers in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing seventh.

 

Milford’s honorable mention selections for the winter were Kobey Bronaugh (wrestling), Jessica Haines (girls bowling) and Mackenzie Mason (girls bowling).
