Swimming Teams Start New Year Hosting Turpin, Milford Invitational This Week

THE BOYS REPORT: December 19 vs. Anderson: With seven individual and three relay wins, the boys team stormed past ECC rival Anderson by a 116-33 score.

December 22 at Butler Invitational: The Eagles easily defended their Butler Invitational title on the strength of nine wins and 17 top-five finishes. Seniors Tyler Babinec and Sam Leatherwood each won a pair of individual races to lead the way. Milford finished the event with 515 points to 296 for second place Vandalia Butler.

THE GIRLS REPORT: December 19 vs. Anderson: The Eagles did just enough to ease past league rival Anderson, scoring five total victories to pick up an 82-81 win. Junior Lauren Clark was the star of the day for Milford as she won both the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, while also swimming the opening leg of the winning 200 medley relay squad.

  • 200 medley relay: Lauren Clark, Lauren Bell, Abbey Sauers, Megan Krieger 2:03.86
  • 50 freestyle: Lauren Clark 27.07
  • 100 freestyle: Abbey Sauers 1:02.20

December 22 at Butler Invitational: The girls team also defended its Butler Invitational title, scoring 301 points to win by 23 markers over second place Bellbrook. The Eagles recorded only one win, a 200 freestyle triumph by junior Lauren Clark, but used eight top-five finishes to seal the victory.

  • 100 freestyle: Megan Krieger 4th 1:01.54; Lauren Bell 5th 1:02.00
  • 200 freestyle: Lauren Clark 1st 2:08.18
  • 500 freestyle: Lauren Clark 5th 5:39.99
  • 100 breaststroke: Lauren Bell 2nd 1:17.11
  • 200 freestyle relay: 5th 1:55.80
  • 400 freestyle relay: 4th 4:13.94
  • 200 medley relay: 4th 2:10.08

 

POLL WATCH: The boys squad didn’t receive any votes in the weekly Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. St. Xavier earned all three of the first place votes that were cast, ahead of a top-five comprised of Mason, Oak Hills, Sycamore and Elder. The ECC is represented by Elder in sixth, Turpin in eighth and Anderson and Loveland receiving votes.

 

The girls team also didn’t receive any votes in this week’s rankings. Ursuline Academy is No. 1 this week, despite not receiving any first place votes. Mason (two votes), Seton (one vote), Turpin and Lakota West complete the top-five. The ECC also has Kings and Loveland in a tie for seventh, along with Walnut Hills among other teams also receiving votes.
