Swinging Hot Bats, Baseball Team Back On Diamond For Five This Week

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School baseball team, averaging nearly 12 runs per game in its last six games, return to action this week with a four games and the conclusion of a suspended contest in another busy week. The Eagles have won three straight to improve to 7-5 overall and will try to improve on a 2-3 Eastern Cincinnati league mark in a week that features league match-ups against Turpin and Walnut Hills and the conclusion of the suspended Anderson game. Milford will also travel to Hamilton for non-league action.

 

A LOOK BACK: April 12 vs. Glen Este: Milford 15, Glen Este 1

Milford scored six times in the first inning and never looked back, rolling past Glen Este by a 15-1 score. After the big fist, the Eagles tacked on five in the third and four more in the fourth to seal up their first Eastern Cincinnati Conference win of the year.

 

THE BATS

Brady Sluder, Dylan Stewart and Kyle Minton drove in three runs each to pace the Milford offensive attack. Stewart also scored three times, as did Sam Dobrowolski. Wes Reid went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI from his leadoff slot.

 

THE ARMS

Junior Evan Baugh picked up his second win of the season, yielding just three hits in five innings and one unearned run. Baugh also fanned four against just one walk in improving to 2-1 on the year.

 

April 13 at Glen Este: Milford 15, Glen Este 3

For the second day in a row, Milford jumped all over Glen Este pitching, scoring nine times in the first two innings to run to a 15-3, six-inning victory. The Eagles recorded six doubles on the day among their 14 hits, with senior Wes Reid picking up three.

 

THE BATS

Reid was the hot bat at the plate with his trio of two-baggers, while scoring three runs and driving in three more. Kyle Music added three hits, while Evan Baugh, Matt Kirk and Brady Sluder had two apiece.

 

THE ARMS

Junior Kyle Minton picked up his first win of the season with four solid innings against the Trojans that featured three strikeouts. Tyler Barter and Keith Carter followed Minton to the hill with one scoreless inning each with the latter striking out a pair.

 

April 15 at Oak Hills: Milford 14, Oak Hills 2

Milford won for the fifth time in the last six games with a 14-2 drubbing of Oak Hills. More information on this game will be available later.

POLL WATCH: Milford is ranked eighth in the April 10 version of the area Division I coaches’ poll sponsored by the Cincinnati Enquirer, earning one of the 19 first place votes cast. Moeller enjoys a healthy lead atop the rankings with 12 of the first place votes. The rest of the top-five includes Mason (three votes), the ECC’s Loveland (one vote), Lakota West and St. Xavier (two votes). The ECC is also represented by Anderson in ninth, Kings in 10th, along with Walnut Hills and Turpin each receiving votes. COLLEGE BOUND EAGLES: A trio of seniors on the 2017 Eagles’ roster have already announced their intention to continue their athletic and academic careers on the collegiate level. Joey Ciraci will attend will attend Bluffton University, while Matt Kirk has signed a National Letter of Intent at Morehead State University. George Lucas is on his way to Wilmington College.
