SWOC/ECC Challenge Ahead for Boys Bowling
SETTING THE SCENE: Josh Cooper ended 2017 with a bang, as the senior recorded a perfect score of 300 pins, the first ever perfect game in Milford High School bowling history. The boys bowling team now looks to 2018, with two nonconference opponents as well as the popular SWOC/ECC Challenge in the week ahead.
A LOOK BACK: The Eagles won big in a 2395-1375 defeat of Williamsburg, but the excitement went beyond the victory. As Coach Ritzmann described, it was a day that Josh Cooper put everything together regarding his game. The senior set another new record, the first ever perfect score of 300 in the history of Milford Bowling. The perfect game topped the single game school record of 277, a record Cooper set last season.
Cooper set the record at Batavia Bow where in the ninth frame he got a break when the ball did not quite hit the pocket yet the last pin fell kind of week. According to Ritzmann, “In the tenth frame all three of his strike balls hit solid. Everyone stopped bowling and watched the ninth and tenth frame and when he stuck that last strike everyone, including the Williamsburg bowlers, applauded.”
Both Nathan McGeorge (382) and Rodney Gorley (361) competed in two games, while Kyle Fanning added a 190 in game one.
A LOOK AHEAD: The Eagles return to action with two nonconference dates, and one of the best weekend tournaments of the year, the Southwest Ohio Conference/Eastern Cincinnati Conference Challenge. At last year’s Challenge, the Eagles came away with third place overall – the top finishers of all ECC teams – and Cooper was named to the All-Tournament Team.

INSIDE THE ECC: With no conference action over the holiday break, West Clermont remains the conference leader at 6-0. Kings is second at 3-1, followed by the 4-2 Eagles. Loveland is 3-3, followed by Walnut Hills at 0-2, and Anderson and Turpin at 0-4. Though West Clermont took over to lead the league in team average (947.7), Milford is close behind at 943.2. Milford bowlers occupy a number of spots in the top ten of ECC individual leaders:
Josh Cooper: overall average (3rd – 205.1); high game (1st - 300); series high (5th – 479)
Rodney Gorley: overall average (5th – 199.1); high game (t-6th – 256); series high (2nd – 500)
Nathan Hawkins: high game (4th – 263); series high (3rd – 498)
Nathan McGeorge: overall average (1st – 209.8); high game (5th - 257); series high (6th – 478)
POLL WATCH: Milford maintained a presence in the area coaches’ poll from the Cincinnati Enquirer for week seven, now in a three-way tie for ninth with Colerain and Middletown. Oak Hills held onto the top spot followed by Elder, Mason, Northwest and LaSalle, while St. Xavier dropped to sixth and tied with the ECC’s West Clermont.
