SWOWCA Tourney Ahead for Milford Wrestlers

SETTING THE SCENE:  Milford’s wrestling season is underway, following the Edgewood Invitational where Kobey Bronaugh and Max Ward finished in the top three of their weight classes.  Next up for the Eagles – the SWOWCA’s Annual Glen Sample Classic Tournament, a two day event held at Harrison High School.

 

A LOOK BACK: The Eagles started the year off at the Edgewood Invitational on 12/9.  Kobey Bronaugh (2nd), Max Ward (3rd), Raymond Clayton (5th) and Mason Roy (6th) took the podium, helping Milford to fifteenth place finish.

Bronaugh finished second at 126, losing to #1 seed Joe Pascale, a senior from Troy. Bronaugh, seeded 2nd, advanced straight to the finals with wins over Nathan Castro of Indian Hill, Luke Evans of Dayton Christian, and Tristan Hostetter of Piqua before a 5-4 loss to Pascale in the championship round.

Ward, the sophomore wrestling at 113 lbs., advanced through the bracket with wins over Joey Williams and Nabizhan Zavutatze of Bethel before #1 seed Austin Lacey of Greenville won 13-8. Ward then made his way through the consolation rounds with wins over teammate Raymond Clayton before claiming third place with a 3-2 victory of Nathan Shatto of Miamisburg.  

Rounding out the placers for the Eagles were sophomore Raymond Clayton, fifth at 114 and classmate Mason Roy, 6th at 145. 

Milford placed 15th of 28 teams.  Miamisburg High School won the event with an impressive 167 points, just beating out Little Miami (165).  Greenville (141), Edgewood (127) and Simon Kenton and Monroe (115) round out the top five.  The ECC’s Anderson finished in 12th place with 88 points, and Turpin was 24th after earning 23 points.

SCHEDULE:  Milford returns to action at the annual Southwest Ohio Wrestling Coaches Association’s Glenn Sample Tournament.  The tournament will be held at Harrison High School.    

  • Saturday, 12/16:             Milford @ SWOWCA Classic Tournament, Harrison High School, 9:300 am
  • Sunday, 12/17:                Milford @ SWOWCA Classic Tournament, Harrison High School, 9:30 am

 

POLL WATCH:  Following the first week of the season, Milford received five votes in the second Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll.  LaSalle jumped two spots to the top and Mason fell yet again.  Elder comes in second followed by Harrison and Mason who are tied for third, and Fairfield fell to fifth.  Loveland moved up to ninth from tenth place. West Clermont (9) joined Milford in receiving votes in week two.  Find the coaches' poll HERE.
