Temporary Sports Postponement Announced

Posted on: November 5, 2020

Beginning tomorrow, Friday, November 6, Milford High School will move to a remote model. This means students will learn from home and will follow their school schedule at home. Staff will be working in the building and providing live virtual instruction to students. Athletics, fine arts, and extracurriculars are CANCELLED temporality from Friday November 6 through Sunday November 15. This means ALL athletic teams/programs (in-season AND out-of-season) will unfortunately need to shut down all operations immediately starting Friday November 6th. This includes on-site practices/workouts/scrimmages/games AND all off-site activities. The district will reevaluate this closure next Thursday, November 12. The plan is to bring students back into the building on Monday, November 16 along with resuming all athletic activities. We will communicate with you again next week when more updates arise.

While the high school is closed, families are required to contact the district if their child tests positive for COVID-19 or if your child exhibits symptoms of COVID-19. Parents must call the hotline (513) 576-4150 or fill out our secure form. If your high school student needs meals while the high school is closed, please call our Nutrition Services Department at (513) 576-2290 or (513) 576-4160 to order and arrange for pickup.

The change to remote learning for the high school due to the large number of staff out on quarantine or absent due to illness. We are unable to find enough substitutes to cover for teacher absences. We also have a large number of students in quarantine.

Winter sports teams, this is a small hiatus in the season. Not the ultimate ending or postponement. Our plan is to keep pushing forward and for you to have an opportunity for winter sports teams to have a season.

HELP NEEDED
COVID-19 is having a significant impact on our students and staff. On an almost daily basis we are being notified of positive cases in our students, staff, or school community that require individuals to quarantine. We need your help in stopping the spread within our school community so that we can safely and quickly reopen school.

NOTIFICATION OF POSITIVE CASES
It is extremely important that parents notify us as quickly as possible should their student test positive for COVID-19. If you receive positive results for your student, please contact our school nurse, Patty Price, immediately at 513-576-2214. Most importantly, if your child is sick, please do not send them to school/sports!

SOCIAL GATHERINGS & QUARANTINE ACTIVITIES
The vast majority of positive cases in our students are resulting from social gatherings where students are not practicing social distancing or appropriately wearing masks. Additionally, some of our students who are under quarantine, continue to gather socially with their friends. These activities are significantly contributing to the spread of COVID-19 in our school community and requiring the quarantine of far too many students. Please, ensure your child is practicing the appropriate safety protocols and if your student is under quarantine, please follow the requirements of quarantine with them.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding on this and placing the ultimate safety of our staff, coaches, and student-athletes first. I will communicate details as we know more with our returning to athletics plan for winter sports and off-season teams.

Take care and stay well.
Thank you,
Aaron Zupka
