Three ECC Matches Ahead for Girls Tennis
SETTING THE SCENE: The MHS girls tennis team will be busy in the week ahead. Three of the four scheduled meetings this week count in the ECC standings, including #6 Loveland. The Lady Eagles nearly defeated Anderson last week, and hope that confidence translates into victories in the near future.
A LOOK BACK: Milford’s scheduled meeting with Seton High School on Monday, 8/28, was canceled due to rain, and will not be rescheduled.
Though Milford fell 4-1 to the ECC’s Anderson, the Lady Eagles were competitive in each match. Emme Thomas collected her first victory, prevailing to defeat Anderson’s Fender 6-1, 7-6 (4) at first singles. Both second and third singles were close as well; Jackie Hooper lost to Anderson’s Cornelissen 6-4, 6-3, while Leah Breuer fell to Soucek 6-4, 6-4. The duo of Emma Neal-Grace Ruhlman lost 6-2, 6-0 to DesJardins-Conway, while Olivia Bailey-Sydney Daniels fell to Thorbahn-Keeling, 6-3, 6-2.
A LOOK AHEAD: The Eagles will make up for last week’s light schedule with four straight in the week ahead, including three ECC meetings. Milford will meet Cincinnati Country Day (t-#4, Division II) as well as the ECC’s Loveland, ranked #6 in last week’s poll.

- Thursday, 9/7: Milford @ Kings High School, 4:00 pm
- Friday, 9/8: Loveland High School @ Milford, 4:00 pm
INSIDE THE ECC: Turpin fields a strong team this year, and is the early conference leader at 3-0 (5-2) leads the ECC. Anderson and Loveland each stand at 2-1, while Kings and Walnut Hills are both 1-1. West Clermont is 0-2, followed by Milford, 0-3.
POLL WATCH: The latest area coaches’ poll had little movement in the top five, as Mason and Ursuline Academy held the first and second rankings in week four. However, St. Ursula moved to third while Sycamore fell to fourth. The ECC’s Turpin remained in fifth as they have since week one. Loveland fell to seventh, tied with Lakota West, and Walnut Hills is now tied for ninth, this time with Mount Notre Dame. Milford did not receive votes in week four; Anderson received four votes in the poll for week four.
