Turpin, Kings Await Girls Volleyball

SETTING THE SCENE:  The Eagles collected another conference victory last week, and hosted a successful Volley for a Cause fundraiser with a day full of action with Little Miami.  The schedule eases in the week ahead with just two contests, but with challenging conference opponents in Turpin and Kings.

  

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: Milford will see the ECC’s #9 Turpin for the first time this season; the Spartans are currently 4-2 in the conference.  The squad will also host Kings (3-3), who defeated the Eagles in competitive games in their first ECC meeting early in the season.   

Tuesday, 9/18:             Milford @ Turpin High School @ Milford, 7:00 pm

Thursday, 9/20:           Kings High School @ Milford, 7:00 pm

  

A LOOK BACK:

September 11 at Loveland: Loveland 3, Milford 0

Milford fell to #6 ranked Loveland, who has yet to lose this season, in straight sets; 14-25, 12-25, 18-25.

September 13 at Milford: Milford 3, Walnut Hills 0

The Lady Eagles collected another ECC win, this time a straight set victory with scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-14 over Walnut Hills.

September 15 at Milford: Little Miami 3, Milford 2

Little Miami visited Milford for a full day of volleyball as the Eagles hosted Volley for a Cause.  Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles lost in five, and despite two wins of 25-22 and 25-23 to start the match, Little Miami fought back to win the following three, 25-23, 25-18, and 15-7.

 

ICYMI:  Erica Sharp was a nominee for the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Athlete of the Week for her play the week of Sept. 3.  The senior offensive leader recorded 46 kills and 14 blocks in three games with West Clermont, Anderson and Princeton.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  As of Sept. 17, Loveland remains 6-0 and leading the ECC standings.  Anderson and Turpin are tied at 4-2, followed by West Clermont and Kings, both 3-3.    Turpin fell to 2-2, tied with Kings.  Milford and Walnut Hills are both 2-4 and Withrow awaits their first victor.  Lady Eagles in the top ten of the stats as of 9/17:

  • Serves: Julia Gill (2nd), Erica Sharp (t-9th)      
  • Assists:  Thierauf (2nd)
  • Digs:  Emily Morgan (t-2nd)
  • Blocks:  Sharp (3rd)

  

POLL WATCH:  Mercy McAuley moved to the top of the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll for week five on the heels of their upset victory over Ursuline Academy last week.  Ursuline fell to second, while Mt. Notre Dame, St. Ursula and Mason held at third through fifth.  The ECC’s Loveland and Turpin remained in seventh and ninth respectively.
