Twelve Milford High School Student-Athletes Announce College Plans

The Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that 12 more members of its Class of 2018 will continue their athletic careers on the collegiate level. The student-athletes that have committed to continuing their academic and athletic futures include: Megan Cannon (Women’s Bowling-Thomas More College), Ashley Costa (Women’s Soccer & Lacrosse-Mount St. Joseph University), Bryce Dugan (Football-Ohio University), Rodney Gorley (Men’s Bowling-Shawnee State University), Jessica Haines (Women’s Bowling-Shawnee State University), Ryan Hezlep (Men’s Lacrosse-University of Indianapolis), Alex Lutz (Baseball-Thiel College), Dan Lutz (Baseball-Thiel College), Mackenzie Mason (Women’s Bowling-Shawnee State University), Maggie Ohmer (Women’s Soccer-Ohio Northern University), Amanda Reinhart (Women’s Tennis-United States Air Force Academy) and A.J. Teague (Women’s Lacrosse-Transylvania University).

 

Cannon has been a member of two straight Eastern Cincinnati Conference Girls Bowling Championship teams. As a junior, Cannon earned honorable mention all-conference honors and as a senior, she ranks just outside the top-10 in the ECC with a 158.0 average and has a high game of 212.

 

At Thomas More, Cannon will play for head coach Michele Colangelo. Megan is the daughter of John and Sheri Cannon.

 

Costa was a member of the first-ever varsity girls lacrosse program at Milford last season. As a junior, she appeared in 12 games for the Eagles. Costa has remained active in club soccer after playing the first two year of high school for the Milford program.

 

At Mount St. Joseph, Costa will play soccer for head coach Josh Hess and lacrosse for Paige Apel. Ashley is the daughter of Leonard and Shannon Costa.

 

Dugan had a banner season, earning second team All-Ohio honors and ECC Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Dugan was also tabbed a first team all-district selection and an all-conference first team honoree. A force on the defensive line all season long, Dugan finished with a team-high 121 tackles (including 17 for loss) and an ECC-best 6.5 sacks. He also forced four fumbles, recovered one and executed a pick-six interception for a touchdown in a huge win over Anderson.

 

At Ohio, Dugan will be a preferred walk-on for head coach Frank Solich. Bryce is the son of Patrick and Vicki Dugan.

 

Gorley is enjoying a career year, averaging a personal-best 197.8 pins per game. He has posted a high game of 256 and a high series of 500, helping the Eagles to a second place finish in the league standings.

 

At Shawnee State, Gorley will compete for head coach Bryan Sturgell. Rodney is the son of Jerome and Mary Phillips.

 

Haines has been an important piece of the Milford bowling program which has captured two straight ECC Championships. She currently leads the league with a 189.3 average and is second for both high game and high series in the league rankings. Haines is a three-time All-ECC selection, including two consecutive first team honors.

 

At Shawnee State, Haines will compete for head coach Bryan Sturgell. Jessica is the daughter of Mark and Toni Haines.

 

Hezlep earned All-ECC honorable mention honors as a junior, helping the Eagles to the inaugural ECC Boys Lacrosse Championship. As a junior, Hezlep accumulated 27 ground balls for Milford in 15 games.

 

At Indianapolis, Hezlep will play for head coach Greg Stocks. Ryan is the son of David and Jennifer Hezlep.

 

Twin brothers Alex and Dan Lutz were first-year members of the Milford varsity baseball program last spring, helping the Eagles to a 20-win season and an appearance in the OHSAA District Championship Game. Alex is a right-handed pitcher, while Dan is a catcher.

 

At Thiel, located in Greenville, Pa., the brothers will play for head coach Joe Schaly. Alex and Dan are the sons of Mark and Beth Lutz.

 

Mason is enjoying an outstanding season, having recently set a school record with a high game of 289. A two-time second team All-ECC selection, Mason currently ranks seventh in the league with a 171.3 average.

 

At Shawnee State, Mason will compete for head coach Bryan Sturgell. Mackenzie is the daughter of William and Holly Mason.

 

Ohmer was a four-year member of the varsity program at Milford. She finished her career with three goals and 10 assists for the Eagles.

 

At Ohio Northern, Ohmer will play for head coach Mark Batman. Maggie is the daughter of Peter and Sarah Ohmer.

 

Reinhart was a three-time first team All-ECC selection and a two-time district qualifier. As a senior, Reinhart focused on the area junior’s circuit. She finished her career with 49 individual wins and two doubles triumphs.

 

At the Air Force Academy, Reinhart will play for head coach Kim Gidley. Amanda is the daughter of Andre and Donna Reinhart.

 

Like Hezlep, Teague was also a member of the first-ever ECC Championship team for boys lacrosse. As a defenseman, Teague earned first team All-ECC and second team OHSCLA All-Region second team honors. On offense, Teague contributed four goals and seven assists for the Eagles.

 

At Transylvania, Teague will play for head coach Terry Justice on a team that also features Milford graduate Trenton Sneed. A.J. is the son of Mike and Lisa Teague.

 

These 12 commitments bring the total number for the MHS Class of 2018 to 14. Further signee information will be shared throughout the 2017-18 academic year as it is finalized.
