SETTING THE SCENE:  Junior Amanda Reinhart extended her win streak with another two wins last week, and Milford was thisclose to upsetting Anderson for the team’s first win of the season.  The Eagles, who are starting to gain momentum and confidence, will have a chance to grab that first win this week as they take on Mason B and Wyoming in the coming week.

A LOOK BACK:  Milford hosted Division II’s top-ranked Seven Hills High School last week (Aug. 29), and though the Eagles gave the Stingers a challenge, Seven Hills came away with the win, 4-1.  Amanda Reinhart won 6-1, 6-1 over Seven Hills' L. Sagger at first singles, while the rest of the squad was much improved playing in hot and humid conditions.  Final results:  Reinhart (M) d. Sagger (S) 6-1, 6-1; Tehrani (S) d. Faler (M) 6-1, 6-2; Alper (S) d. Breuer (M) 6-0, 6-1; Blatt-Choo (S) d. LaFrance-Spencer (M) 6-2, 6-1; Duncan-Parameswaran (S) d. Thomas-Neil (M) 6-1, 6-1.

Looking for their first victory of the season, Milford made a visit to take on the ECC’s Anderson.  In a very close contest Milford lost, 3-2.  Amanda Reinhart and Mallory Faler collected wins for the Eagles:  Reinhart d. Kaylor 6-0, 6-0; and Faler d. Fender 6-1, 6-1.  Leah Breuer took the first set over Anderson’s Conway 3-6, but Conway came back to win following two sets, 6-2, 6-1.  In doubles, LaFrance-Spencer fell to Whitehead-Moulas 6-1, 6-0; and Stump/Stith of Anderson d. Thomas-Neil 6-2, 6-2.

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Nearly halfway through the season, the Eagles have another two weeks with a fairly light schedule before tournament action begins.  The Lady Eagles are on the road this week, with a trip to face Mason B as well as an away match with Wyoming High School, ranked #9 in Division II.

  • Tuesday, 9/6:                    Milford @ Mason B, Mason High School, 4:00 pm
  • Thursday, 9/8:                   Milford @ Wyoming, Wyoming Country Club, 4:00 pm

INSIDE THE ECC:  The Eagles are waiting for that first ECC win, and sit at 0-3 in the ECC and 0-7 overall.  Turpin maintains the lead in the league at 4-0 (6-3 overall) and Loveland moved to second with a 2-1 conference record.  Anderson and Walnut Hills, both 1-1, are tied for third, followed by Kings (1-2) and Glen Este (0-1).  Reinhart continues to reign with the best record in the ECC at first singles, 3-0, and Faler moved up to t-4th in third singles this week.  Click here for the ECC standings.

POLL WATCH:  Mason was ranked first yet again in week four, while Sycamore slipped past Ursuline Academy for second.  The ECC’s Turpin remained in fourth, as did fifth place Mt. Notre Dame.  The ECC’s Loveland moved up to seventh from ninth; Walnut Hills dropped from sixth to eighth.  No other ECC schools, including Milford, received votes in week four.
