Two Of Area’s Best Await Girls Soccer Team This Week

SETTING THE SCENE: Match-ups against the area’s No. 1 team in both Division I and II make up a challenging week ahead for the Milford High School girls soccer team. Riding a modest two-match winning streak after a pair of triumphs last week, the Eagles enter this week just 2-3-2 overall, but are in third place in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference with a 1-0-1 mark. The daunting slate begins Tuesday at rival Loveland, before a Saturday night trip to Indian Hill. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. kickoffs.

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 4 vs. West Clermont: Senior Ali Kirk scored one goal and assisted on another, leading Milford to its first win of the season, a 3-1 decision against West Clermont. A pair of juniors also found the back of the net as Catrionna Manning and Zoey McAninch tallied the other goals. Joining Kirk as players with assists were junior Ali Claus and sophomore Ellie Redrow.

 

Sept. 8 at Lakota West: Junior Chloe Lorenz scored her first goal of the 2018 season as the Eagles won their second straight match, a 1-0 victory at Lakota West. Senior Ali Kirk picked her second assist and third point of the week in the triumph.

POLL WATCH: A pair of wins last week pushed the Eagles back among many teams that are receiving votes in the Cincinnati Enquirer’s weekly Division I area coaches’ poll, released on Sept. 10. Defending state champions and ECC member Loveland is again No. 1 this week with 12 of 19 first place votes. Fairfield (six votes), Mount Notre Dame (one vote), Mason and Sycamore make up the top-five. Also representing the ECC in the rankings are Anderson in sixth, along with Turpin and West Clermont joining Milford in the others receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
