Unbeaten Boys Soccer Opens ECC Play Thursday Hosting Kings

SETTING THE SCENE: With three wins and a tie to start the season, the Milford High School boys soccer squad will open up its home and Eastern Cincinnati Conference slates on Thursday night when the Eagles host Kings. The Eagles have been flying high in their 3-0-1 start, outscoring opponents by a 14-5 margin. Junior Joey Round has been off to the best start in the ECC, scoring seven goals in the first four matches of the year.

A LOOK BACK: Aug. 17 at Little Miami: Junior Joey Round helped the Eagles get off to an outstanding start to the year as they downed Little Miami by a 5-1 score. Round was unstoppable for Milford, scoring four of the team’s five goals. In his first career match, freshman Ryan Henke also found the back of the net, while junior Noah Burnett contributed a pair of assists.

 

Aug. 22 at Indian Hill: Milford advanced to 2-0-0 on the young season with a 2-1 win at Indian Hill, the team ranked second in the Division II area coaches’ preseason poll. Senior Cole Cambron led the way, scoring a goal and adding an assist on the team’s other goal by junior Noah Burnett.

 

Aug. 23 at Lakota East: Playing for the second day in a row, the Eagles battled Lakota East to a 1-1 tie. Noah Burnett scored for the second day in a row, while Cole Cambron returned the favor from the night before by assisting on Burnett’s score.

 

Aug. 25 at Hamilton: Joey Round led a Milford scoring outburst for the second time in four games, this time tallying a hat trick as the Eagles knocked off Hamilton by a 6-2 score. After scoring four times in the opener, Round added a hat trick against the Big Blue to push his season total to seven. Cole Cambron scored twice, while Kyle Boehm added the final tally. Noah Baker assisted on a pair of goals and Aaron Bumgarner had an assist of his own.

POLL WATCH: The strong start to the campaign has seen the Eagles rise to eighth in the weekly Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. The top-two slots in the rankings belong to the GCL with Moeller No. 1 (10 votes) and St. Xavier just behind (four votes). Third place Mason picked up the other two top votes. The ECC is well represented with positions four through six belonging to Anderson, Loveland and Turpin. Walnut Hills is also just outside the top-10 in others receiving votes.
