Posted on: March 11, 2018

Two of the younger members of the 2017-18 Milford High School girls basketball team, freshman Azyiah Williams and sophomore Abby Thierauf, have been honored for their play this winter. Williams was the top honoree, earning second team All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference and third team All-District 16 accolades, while Thierauf was the Eagles’ honorable mention All-ECC choice.

Williams broke onto the scene in a big way, leading the Eagles in points per game (7.4), assists (49) and steals (40), starting 22 games as a freshman. Her biggest offensive game of the year came at Turpin where she finished with career highs in points (15) and rebounds (7). In a runaway win at Hughes, Williams keyed a smothering defensive effort as she came up with 10 steals.

Thierauf was one of the ECC’s top interior defenders, tying for fourth in the league with 6.0 rebounds per game, while leading all conference players with 37 blocks. She pulled down a career-best 14 rebounds against Northwest, while blocking six shots in a win over Shroder. Thierauf finished her first full varsity season averaging 3.9 points per game, including a career-high 14 in the Hughes win.

Milford finished the season 8-16 overall, including an OHSAA Tournament opening victory over Mount Healthy before falling in the sectional semifinals to Mason, who has gone on to reach the OHSAA State Final 4.
