Williams Leads Postseason Girls Basketball Honorees
Milford sophomore Azyiah Williams leads the list of three Eagles girls basketball players who have recently earned honors for their play during the 2018-19 season. Williams was chosen by the Eastern Cincinnati Conference coaches as a first team all-conference selection. In addition, she was tabbed All-Southwest District honorable mention by the media as well as honorable mention All-District 16 in a vote of coaches.
Joining Williams as All-ECC honorees were Paige Ayler who earned second team recognition as a freshman, along with honorable mention choice, senior Ali Kirk.
For the second straight season, Williams led the Eagles in scoring, finishing this year’s campaign at 12.6 points per game. Her total was the fifth-best in the ECC during the regular season. She was also tops on the team in both assists (69) and steals (58), ranking in the top-five in the league in each category. On four occasions, Williams reached at least 20 points, including a career-high 26 against Loveland and a 24 point, seven assist, four steal performance in the OHSAA Tournament against Harrison.
Ayler burst onto the scene, averaging 6.5 points per game as a first-year player and pacing the Eagles with 5.7 rebounds per game. Against Withrow in January, Ayler erupted for 21 points, marking the most by an ECC Freshman since Walnut Hills’ Sean Kelly Darks scored 22 against Little Miami in the 2017 OHSAA Tournament.
Kirk was an aggressive and scrappy player for the Eagles this season, using her athleticism to average 5.0 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Also an accomplished soccer player, Kirk used her toughness to be one of Milford’s top defenders this winter. Offensively, she exploded for a career-high 18 points in a contest at Oak Hills.
