Milford Schools is proud to recognize 22 seniors from Milford High School and Milford Academy who have earned the Governor’s Merit Scholarship, a statewide honor awarded to the top 5 percent of each high school’s graduating class.
The Governor’s Merit Scholarship provides $5,000 per year for students attending an Ohio college or university. It also guarantees admission to any public university in the state. The program highlights students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and dedication throughout their high school careers.
This year’s Milford recipients represent a wide range of interests and accomplishments. Each student earned a position in the top 5 percent through strong study habits, challenging coursework, and consistent effort in the classroom.
One of these recipients, senior Danielle S., shared what the journey to the top 5 percent looked like for her. She spoke about taking several rigorous classes, staying committed even when the workload felt heavy, and leaning on friends during late-night study sessions.
“I took a lot of AP classes and there were definitely late nights,” Danielle said. “Study groups helped a lot and we supported each other along the way.”
Danielle offered advice for younger students who hope to earn this honor. She encouraged them to work hard, stay focused, and not give up when the material seems challenging. She also emphasized the importance of balance.
“I think it is important to take breaks and do something for yourself every day. It helps you stay focused and keeps you from getting overwhelmed.” She added that being in the top 5 percent also holds significant benefits for college planning, including the guaranteed admission to Ohio’s public universities.
