Milford Exempted Village School District is thrilled to share that Milford Junior High School Principal Misty Goetz has been named the Ohio Middle School Principal of the Year by the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA).

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding school leaders across Ohio who demonstrate exceptional leadership, dedication to student success, and commitment to their school communities. Goetz was selected from among finalists representing ten geographic zones across the state.

Principal Goetz served as principal of Milford Junior High School for six years with a clear focus on student ownership of learning. During her time as principal, she has overseen the creation of student committees such as the WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) program, along with other extracurricular opportunities that help students build connections, strengthen leadership skills, and feel a greater sense of belonging in the school community.

“She is a leader and an advocate for the concept of cultivating student agency. Her focus is on developing students’ ability to analyze their own data, set goals, and monitor their progress,” said OASSA in a press release. “Goetz believes that every decision she makes as a school leader—from scheduling to instruction and extracurriculars—is guided in a very intentional way to ensure that the school experience prepares her students to think critically, act responsibly, and ultimately thrive in a dynamic, interconnected world.”

Beyond her dedication to students, Goetz is admired by staff and colleagues alike for her willingness to mentor other educators and share her expertise at professional development events across Ohio. Her passion for education extends well beyond the walls of Milford Junior High, leaving a lasting impact on both students and future leaders.

“We couldn’t be prouder of Principal Goetz and the positive difference she makes every day for our students and staff,” said Milford Superintendent John Spieser.

“Here in Milford, we have long recognized how amazing she is, and it’s no surprise to us that her leadership is now being celebrated across the state. In her new role, she will bring this same leadership and experience to the district level, where her knowledge and vision will continue to benefit all of our schools.”

Milford Schools celebrates this incredible achievement and congratulates Misty Goetz on being named the Ohio Middle School Principal of the Year.
