SETTING THE SCENE: Coming off a disappointing loss to Loveland and staring in the face of a daunting three-game stretch beginning next week, Milford will seek a rivalry victory over West Clermont this Friday. Both squads enter the night with 1-3 records, with Milford holding an ECC victory to its credit, while the Wolves are 0-3 in league play. The Eagles will rely on the steadily improving Jayden Bodley to lead the passing game. The junior threw for 251 yards and three TDs last week and will face one of the lowest-ranked passing defenses in the ECC. The Eagle D will have to stop the always powerful WC rushing attack in order to score the win.

Caranza, Dixon nominated
Keeping with its annual tradition, Tristatefootball.com released its annual preseason team. While no Eagles made the final voted teams, senior DB Isaiah Caranza and senior LB Jake Dixon were both nominees.

Last Year vs. West Clermont
Two fumbles, a misplayed kickoff and a pick-six all led to West Clermont touchdowns as the Wolves pulled away from Milford in the second half for a commanding 49-21 Eastern Cincinnati Conference victory. Trailing by just 21-14 at the half, a sloppy second half doomed the Eagles who fell to 3-2 on the year and 2-2 in the ECC, while losing to their county rivals for the first time since 2019.

The stats sheet showed big nights for offensive standouts Jordan Davis (177 yards from scrimmage) and Luke Brand (224 yards passing) but both were each responsible for two of Milford’s four turnovers. Milford couldn’t slow down the West Clermont rushing attack as the Wolves finished with 405 yards on the ground.

The night started well for Milford as Brand led a six-play, 67-yard opening drive, scampering 14 yards for an early 7-0 lead. DB Isaiah Carranza then stopped the Wolves first drive with his first interception of the campaign. The turnover bug bit Milford for the second time on its first snap of the second quarter and just three players later, WC cashed in to tie the game at seven.

Brand and company had an answer just over two minutes later when the senior QB went up top for Caden Bailey and a 27-yard touchdown. West Clermont answered on its next drive on a Bo Rickman score, ultimately sending the game into the break knotted at 14.

Things started to go a little sideways on just the second Milford snap of the third quarter with another lost fumble. Landon Young made Milford pay five plays later with a one-yard rushing TD. Young put WC up 28-14 later in the quarter as he dashed 33 yards for another score.

Things really started to go West Clermont’s way from there as on the ensuing kickoff, no Milford player was able to make a play on the ball, allowing Wolf Alexander Hauck to jump on the loose ball deep in Eagle territory. Rickman burst in from 13 yards out just two plays later and all of the sudden WC had opened a 35-14 lead.

The last play of the third quarter provided more fireworks Milford could have lived without as Daeveon Bennett leaped for a tipped pass and went 85 yards the other way for an interception return touchdown.

A tiring Milford defense watched Rickman get loose for a 62-yard TD rush early in the fourth quarter for WC’s final points. Milford wasn’t done though as Davis broke off a 51-yard rushing TD with under three minutes remaining.

Young led the WC rushing attack with 198 yards and three touchdowns, with Rickman just behind with 177 yards and three scores. Davis led Milford with 147 yards rushing, while Brand’s 224 yards through the air came on 21-of-27 passing. Carter Ings was the top target with seven catches for 68 yards. Eagle LB Jake Dixon had a career-high 13 tackles in the defeat.

Week 4 Game Summary
A game that started with promise and had the makings of an offensive shootout turned into a second half letdown on both half of the ball for Milford as the Eagles dropped a 42-21 decision to rival Loveland. The defeat snapped a staggering nine-game winning streak dating back to 2016 that Milford had enjoyed over the Tigers.

The night started with two Milford scoring drives, sandwiched on either side of a Loveland fumble as the Eagles built a quick 14-0 lead. Junior QB Jayden Bodley completed his first six passes on an 11-play, 80-yard drive that chewed 5:20 off the clock and culminated on a Joey Dahmer seven-yard TD reception. On the first Loveland drive, Jake Dixon forced a fumble that was recovered by Chase Gale deep in Tigers’ territory. It took just four plays for Bodley to once again find Dahmer, this time from 25 yards out for the second Eagle score.

By the end of the first quarter, Milford had racked up 100 total yards of offense and held the 14-0 lead. Loveland cut the deficit in half less than two minutes into the second quarter as Chase Martin scored his first of five touchdowns on the night. Martin scored again to tie the game near the 4:00 minute then set up Loveland’s go-ahead touchdown with an 80-yard punt return that led to a Sean Clare TD pass.

The Eagles were able to battle back to tie the game in the waning seconds of the half thanks to some razzle dazzle. A double reverse flea flicker produced a Bodley to David Kittrell 33-yard TD strike, the latter’s first score of 2025. After rolling up 100 yards in the first quarter, the Eagles were up to 208 by the half.

Martin would be the story of the second half as he scored three more touchdowns to help Milford pull away. His first was a 50-yard TD reception in the third quarter. Another Milford fumble late in the third led to Martin’s one-yard plunge on the first play of the fourth quarter and a 35-21 Loveland lead. The Eagles could get no closer and Martin plowed in from a yard out with 3:28 to go to wrap the scoring. After a strong first half offensive output, the Eagles managed just 60 yards of total offense in the second half.

Bodley finished a solid 26 of 38 passing for 251 yards and three touchdowns. Nolan Burch and Dahmer each hauled in seven passes, with Dahmer bringing his season TD total to five. Burch totaled 76 yards, with Dahmer adding 67. Dixon finished with a career-high 17 tackles.

The story of the night was Loveland’s Martin and his five touchdowns and 310 all-purpose yards (97 rushing, 50 receiving, 68 kick return and 95 punt return).
