He finished the night with 16 tackles and enters the regular season finale with 238 to his credit. Dixon’s 124 tackles (and counting) this season is also a Milford record, surpassing Dugan’s best of 121 during the 2017 season.
Last Year vs. Turpin
A back-and-forth battle ended in disappointment for Milford as Turpin scored the game-winning touchdown with just under three minutes remaining to pull out a 24-21 win over the Eagles. The Eagles were able to overcome a 17-7 halftime deficit to take an early fourth quarter lead, but couldn’t hold on against a pass-happy Spartan offense.
The Eagles actually got the ball back twice after the go-ahead Turpin score but couldn’t find the game-winning magic. The first series resulted in a turnover on downs, while the second wrapped on a game-ending sack of QB Luke Brand. Milford actually got near midfield with one play remaining, before Brody Nickerson’s third sack of the game.
The defeat overshadowed a second straight big game for Brand who finished 23 of 43 passing for a season-high 310 yards and two touchdowns. Carter Ings hauled in both of the TD tosses, finishing with 167 yards on eight catches.
While the Milford offense put up 363 total yards, a Turpin offense led by record-setting QB Devan Nigam put up 386. Nigam was 17 of 29 for 250 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted three times, including twice by first-time defensive starter David Kittrell.
The Eagles would open the night moving the ball into Turpin territory only to come up short. Turpin answered with a field goal and after another defensive stop, Nigam connected on his first touchdown to give the Spartans a 10-0 lead.
Milford finally got on the board exactly halfway through the second quarter when Brand rushed in from three yards out. The big play of the series belonged to Ings who hauled in a 43-yard reception to inside the Turpin 20-yard line.
Turpin proved undeterred by the Milford score however as they used a 10-play, 71-yard march to take a 17-7 lead with a minute remaining following a short Nigam TD pass.
It took until about midway through the third quarter until the next big play arrived and it was Kittrell trying to give Milford the momentum. Forced into action at defensive back, Kittrell stepped in front of a Nigam throw at the Turpin 23-yard line and appeared headed for the end zone when he fumbled at the Spartan four. Turpin recovered, but three plays later, Isaiah Carranza got a pick to hand the ball back to Milford.
A quick Brand to Ings 20-yard reception got Milford humming, but on a night when the Eagles went one of five on fourth-down tries, it happened inside the Turpin 20. The Eagles would continue to battle, and after a Turpin punt, Brand found Ings on a quick slant route for a 46-yard scoring catch and run late in the third to cut it to 17-14
Milford’s first drive of the fourth was a good one and pushed them in front as Brand used an inside flip pass to Ings for another TD connection, this time from seven yards out.
Turpin would seal it when Nigam found Evan Overholser for a nine-yard score with 2:59 on the clock.
Week 9 Game Summary
Turnovers and penalties plagued Milford throughout a disappointing 45-14 loss to Little Miami during Week 9 of the 2025 season. The Panthers raced to 28-0 lead and never let off the gas as they sent Milford to its seventh straight defeat.
In a match-up of 1-7 squads, Little Miami proved dominant as they churned out 277 yards rushing to run away from the Eagles. Four Milford turnovers led to 17 of Little Miami’s points, while the Eagles also rang up 12 penalties for 154 yards.
Not to be overlooked in the defeat was a record-setting night enjoyed by senior LB Jake Dixon in which he established a pair of new school records for tackles. With his first stop of the night, Dixon snapped a three-way tie with Bryce Dugan and Andrew Littrell for the most career tackles by a Milford player, moving to the top of the list at 223. He finished the night with 16 tackles and enters the regular season finale with 238 to his credit. Dixon’s 124 tackles (and counting) this season is also a Milford record, surpassing Dugan’s best of 121 during the 2017 season.
Down 28 nearing halftime, the Eagles tried to snatch the momentum with senior WR Karson Long square in the middle of the attempted comeback. First, Long hauled in a short pass from QB Jayden Bodley and raced 52 yards for a touchdown just 1:11 before intermission. Then, on the second half’s opening kickoff, Long darted 69 yards through the Little Miami coverage, finally being hauled down at the Panther seven. Bodley and Nolan Burch took it from there, first hooking up on a seven-yard TD strike and a subsequent two-point conversion.
But that would be as close as Milford would get as Little Miami RB Andrew Trapp took over. After recording three first half rushing touchdowns, Trapp added two more in the second half to give him a school record five for the game as Little Miami pulled away.
Long would go on to lead Milford with 167 all-purpose yards (96 kick return, 71 receiving). Bodley completed 13 of 26 passes for a modest 117 yards, while adding 15 carries for a net 49 yards after being sacked four times.
